My favourite series I got to work on, the third volume of my Video Games original score specials. I worked for more than 16 months researching this, and all in all for my whole existence playing these fantastic games. A world of music still so pure and unexplored. You will hear music from the Final Fantasy and Persona series, Resident Evil, Croc, R4 Ridge Raser, and many more.

猫の額 Neko No Hitai - Dragos Guest Mix 15-06-2018

Percussion plays a vital part in any musical composition. It often serves as the backbone on which all other instrumentation grows and finds its way not very different from the symbiosis between the heartbeat and the human body. Outside of the human voice, it was our first encounter with music making as a species. The realisation that the simple action of two given things creating sound upon coming into contact, opened a new world of opportunities. 

And in this simplicity of inception lies its strength, its tribal and transcendental qualities and its unique ability to transcend time and space like nothing else. Rhythm exists since more than 200.000 years. My intend with this mixtape is to pursue this pure flow of percussive rhythm, breaking free, simmering to the essence of its tribal and transcendental qualities. 

This is in not a celebration of the best percussive rhythm in music but a meditation on how powerful and mesmerising it can be. So I wonder if we experience the same ancestral, uncontrollable desire towards rhythm as our ancient mothers and fathers did when observing that first percussive noise created by contact?

Drawing on the parallel between human physiognomy and musical instrumentation I could argue, if percussion is the rhythmical backbone of any composition then strings are most resembling the rib cage. The similarities are not only aesthetic, but sonic in the way it propagates resonance and vibration around the heart. Defined by tension and vibration or more accurately vibration through tension, strings can be plucked, gently brushed, swiftly hit or rubbed with an array of sticks, pick or bows but in their essence with the human fingers. The resonance is endless and it is can be as sombre as it is blissful. Most often than not it offers a direct sonic tunnel into the underworld, if we could ever imagine the unknown, the depth of despair or horror it will come with strings as it's soundtrack.

Once again I am not trying to document a history of strings as a vital musical component, but much more so to distill genres and styles into a low simmer of endless resonance of strings. Essentially hoping to shine a light on string instrument's primordial purpose regardless of time and place.
