BIOGRAPHY of “DRAK NEW YORK”



DRAK is a talented entertainer with a bright future ahead; his ability to create and perform has attracted producers, promoters and entertainment lovers from across the globe.

He started his musical career at age 12.  With the influence of his first turf (New York) he won his first rap contest in Queens at age 16, which was called the Rap Classics.

In 1990 his musical career got a much needed boost when he migrated to Europe (Holland) and performed with a rap group with his cousin(E.N.B.) called 24K.  This group opened up for acts such as KRS 1, Jungle Brothers, and a Tribe called Quest among others.  He also appeared on a recording single with the group called 24 Ways.  The group broke up sometime later and he returned to New York.

He then formed a group in May of that same year called The Last Empire and did some recording with them under the name Shakespeare—as in comparison to the great playwright William Shakespeare.  Their first album was done on an independent label, which was titled “My Old Jams Still Slam”.  This group opened for acts such as Kid Capri at the Apollo Theatre. Drak left the group  some time later to perform some solo recording for the producers of Mas Production, who previously produced groups namely Mikey Jarrett, Cash Money and Boyz II Men.

In 1993, DRAK made a musical Exodus to the Caribbean Island of Angilla (roots of his father).  There he did some soul searching and his hardcore raps changed to a new creative blend of conscious rap with an R&B and Caribbean flavor.  He caught the eyes of a number of local promoters and producers this creative rap.  He linked with local promoters who had Jamaican connections and together they created a new sound by fusing his Rap with Dance Hall and Reggae sound from Jamaica.  This Drak has called Hip-Hall Music.  He has since performed along side international artist such as Bankie Banks, The Wailers, Columbus Recording artist Tony Rebel and Freddie McGregor.

DRAK’s writing skills have earned him recognition throughout Anguilla and the Caribbean and he has written and performed Soca hits for some of Anguilla’s top bands, namely AXA and The Mussington Brothers. In 2006 he represented Anguilla in Barbados in Digicel Rising Stars Competition.

Dreams are said to be illusions of ones subconscious, but when dreams are fused with talent they definitely will be realized.  Now a talented act is predicted to take musical market to a new height.  He has travelled far and this year we will welcome the entertainer known as DRAK  New York the Lyrical Shakespeare!!!
