Tracks created with The Remix - an inclusive youth performance company for young disabled and non-disabled people aged 12 to 19. 

As part of Planted Symphony we delivered inclusive music making activities in some of the areas we toured to. In Dorset we worked with Dorset Music Hub and The Remix, combining Planted Symphony tech and ideas with their theme of Gossip. Here are some of the tracks we created together.

What’s the goss

Based on 'The Windmills of Your Mind', Joe Rushbrook has written new lyrics to create a beautiful new song. This recording was made with Doug Bott as part of a Drake Music project at Paul's Place in Bristol with funding from Arts Council England. Joe Rushbrook sings the vocals and plays one guitar part (panned left). Joe also created the picture of The Guitarist. Doug Bott plays the other guitar parts and keyboards. The song was arranged by Joe Rushbrook and Doug Bott, and was recorded, mixed and mastered by Doug Bott on behalf of Drake Music. http://www.drakemusic.org  http://www.paulsplace.org.uk

The Kids at School - Josh W, Patrick & Josh G

On the Go was an inclusive DJing and music production course run by Drake Music North West in spring 2015. It gave four disabled music producers the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from MOBO-nominated Manchester  jazz composer Matthew Halsall using assistive music technology. Sarah Fisher created this piece using touch capacitive copper sensors to trigger sounds as a computer keyboard is not accessible for her. She sampled Matthew and his band and also added her own parts using cajón.

Last Tango In Liverpool

A new track created by Disabled musician Hannah Shelmerdine, based in the North West of England, inspired by the feeling of sailing and being out on the water. Hannah takes the listener on a journey with her, from an intimate opening with the sound of waves through to an expansive melodic theme on the clarinet.

Hannah's process is based in experimentation, with this piece being built first in Logic and then combined with sounds from clarinetist Rachael Moat. Hannah and Rachael took a collaborative approach, with Hannah directing and Rachael improvising to create the final sounds.

Recorded live at HOME Manchester, this hypnotic trap track by female producer ey5z  sets Breezy's mumble rap flow to reflective skipping beats and wavy synths.

Here's hoping we hear more from this new pairing as, to paraphrase Breezy's opening salvo, they've got plenty to say.

Created & recorded as part of Go Compose, a project from Drake Music offering artistic development for young Disabled musicians.

Dirt on my name

Dirt On My Name - ey5z feat. Breezy (live)

A stuttering, mechanical noise in a steady, repetitive rhythm, like a fax machine stuttering.

"March. It's the beginning of my time as an Artist in Residence at Drake Music. Nearly spring: a time of beginnings and renewal."

A more melodic version of the rhythm emerges, the sounds of wind chimes manipulated.

"And in the office, it's a time of introductions, laughter and games. I get to know the team and the other artists in residence, Sonia and Elinor. We spend a couple of days getting to know each other, starting to collaborate and the conversations are interspersed with...

"Cancelled flights"

A moment of silence. A halting violin / viola drone starts and stops with each new line.

"Cancelled plans
Plans in jeopardy

"After two days working with each other, we go our separate ways and make plans to collaborate in person and remotely. And now several weeks later, the circumstances are very different.
Some of which I feel I should have predicted
Others, I don't think I could have."

Silence. 

"I lost someone very close to me and work had to go on hold."

And then the rhythm and violin return.

"Now I come back, I find myself in a different part of the country
Separated from a lot of the things I want and need
And I'm trying to get started again."

The violin starts to unfurl in a long drone, muffled, mournful singing in the background gets louder, more wind chimes notes start to appear, and the sound of wind becomes more prominent, almost overwhelming.

Silence.

"I'm using a Grain Scanner to manipulate the sound of windchimes in my mother's garden, timestretching a synthesiser so it sounds like a violin, and I'm singing."

A slightly fuzzy recording of me playing the piano and singing an excerpt of Joanna Newsom's 'This Side of the Blue' fades in.

"And the city that turns, turns protracted and slow
And I find myself toeing th'Embarcadero
And I find myself knowing
The things that I knew
Which is all that you can know
On this side of the blue"

The track fades out.
