@PBDY is the DJ, producer and founder of @weareTAR, the LA-based label who’ve put out records for the likes of Michelle Blades, Jimi Nxir and Cakedog. Having caught our attention when he toured with Flying Lotus, as he prepares to launch his show, The Monolith, on Radar Radio next month, this is something of a warm-up mix made exclusively for i-D. Featuring a whole lot of new releases from TAR, PBDY’s roommate is label manager at @Brainfeeder, and so it’s only natural (and much appreciated) that some unheard, unreleased magic from the BF family has found its way into the mix too. Hold tight, cause with 56 tracks in just 74 minutes, it's a wild ride that culminates with the world premiere of PBDY’s @JeremiahJae collaboration.

This Halloween, prepare your eyes and ears for a night of hair-raising audio and spine-chilling visuals with top turntablist, VJ, and fright-master DJ Yoda.

The performance space Rich Mix will be given full Halloween decoration and we’ve got a spooky late licence to take you raving  into and way past the witching hour. You better watch your back, though as there will be a number of surprises in the form of ghoulish performance artists, hell-bent on scaring the living daylights out of you! Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Think hip-hop. Think The Muppets. Think scratching. Think 80s pop. You can only be thinking about DJ Yoda. DJ Yoda (Duncan Beiny) is from London, England, and is probably the only guy out there playing the theme tune to Cheers in hip-hop clubs. You can find him in the club (like 50 Cent) most nights per week – Yoda has travelled as far as Japan, USA, Canada and Australia to DJ with the likes of De La Soul, Gang Starr, Goldie and many more. However, Halloween is a fright night and whoever better to pull the severed head out of the bag than Yoda. And on the scariest night of the year, Yoda performs in vision as well as sound!

Landmark mixtapes such as How To Cut & Paste (in multiple editions), set the tone for Yoda’s career, expanding out into albums with The Amazing Adventures of… in 2006. Chop Suey and this year’s Breakfast of Champions followed, but he still found the time to collaborate with The Heritage Orchestra on record and is renowned for his genre-bending live performances with all sorts of artists. He’s also mixed a volume of the prestigious FabricLive series.

Yoda’s won awards too: the DMC Scratch DJ category of the Diesel U Music Awards 2001, and was a nominee for best UK hip-hop DJ at the UK Hip-Hop Awards.

The line up is complemented by Keep Up! Records DJs also performing an A/V set. Tom Central, has performed visual shows with some of the best in the business on stages across Europe with the likes of DJ Food, Plaid, Mala and many many more. Label owner and DJ and sometime producer, Tom took his sets onto the screen five years ago and continues to perform at AV events such as Videocrash, Soundcrash’s video mainstay.



Soundcrash & DJ Yoda’s Halloween Nightmare

OK so I wanted this mix to be called "A Secret History" bc I thought it was more fitting but Richelle really wanted to have the Katt Williams reference and of course I had to let him have it.

Not sure where to start this but I feel somewhat privileged as I had the chance of having Richelle's music in my life for the last 12 years now, I can still remember him bringing me burned CD's with weird handwriting on it back in 2003, I also remember being completely mindblown by his audacity and his vision of music back then ::: I became instantly hooked.
Since we started Pelican Fly together in 2011, not a lot has been said about the elusive Richelle ; he is invisible on the web, he granted one single interview (to Interview Magazine in 2013) and only released a handful of original tracks (2 EP's on Pelican Fly and a contribution to Bromance's recent "Homieland" compilation), a few remixes and featurings, two fashion shows soundtracks (both for Rick Owens) and a track for Bricc Baby Shitro's latest mixtape. 
Of course, we know that Richelle has been extremely busy with the visual aspect of Pelican Fly, designing everything from the latest remix artwork to the logo of the label ; rumor also has that he is an architect and builds hotels & appartments in Brussels and elsewhere. But who can really be sure ?

A couple of weeks ago, he sent me this mix composed of demos (Gmail has now replaced the old CD's), mainly produced by him but also by a lot of young artists he's been helping or collaborating with. And once again, it hits me, this music, so radical, reminiscent of everything we've been listening to and everything we've been dreaming of listening to, yet so different and new ; the sound of tomorrow, the music of today as they say. 

This mix documents the unheard history of what has been going on with Richelle recently, I found it so powerful that it needed to have its own catalogue number (FLY020) and it also acts as some kind of virtual Garage Sale before the big leap next year.
This one is for those who are crazy, those who keep asking me for "New Richelle" at every gig (<3). Of course, in true Richellian fashion this mix is not for sale, the demos it is made of are for the most part not even yet finished (but will they ever be ?) this mix is as free as the statement it makes. THAT'S MY SHIT.
