This is one of many attempts [not used in the final film] to musically describe the personality of Gentle Heron, the driving force behind the "Virtual Ability" group in Second Life. Gentle and her team have founded and maintained the growing network of self-help / educational / inspirational creative spaces within the virtual world and have subsequently changed countless lives of people, who are often marginalized by society due to their disability. Not only that: VAI in SL is a place where so called able-bodied people can learn and interact with the "other side". As Gentle often says in regards to her able-bodied fellow human beings: "There is no such thing as not disabled, there is only not YET disabled!" Barbie Alchemi runs "Creations4Parkinsons" in Second Life, a place of community and fun, for support and exchange of ideas, for research, art and yes: horse-back riding. People with Parkinsons and people without it join together in embracing life devoid of judgment and narrow categorization, without boundaries, crossing over ethnic, age and gender lines. This is the slightly condensed conversation [minus my voice] I had with Barbie as the basis for episode 13 coming November 1st, which will also explore her mom Fran, who at 86 years of age enjoys hang-gliding and formal dancing just as much as sharing her wisdom with avatars from all over the world.
