in irish mythology there are many stories where the otherworld (kind of afterlife) is reached through portals found in bodies of water, in both irish and jamaican folklore the stars are our ancestors (sooo water portals must lead us to outer-space!!!!!!) Story is arriving at the water (being called by ancestors), walking deeper into the ocean letting waves wash over you, then plunging beneath a wave and being thrown around so much you don't know if you're at the bottom by the sand or the crest of a wave being invited into an intergalactic realm (by none other than June Tyson and Moor Mother).  Water holds so many stories,  so many bodies and grief, pathways to liberation, knowledge, magic and life
