After the heavy thundering "Drag Racers", the eerie "Tumble Weeds", here now is the melancholic acoustic part 3: "Day dreamers". Or Soñadores en la Carretera Española, if that's correct in Spanish... We had great fun again making this romantic version, using the same themes, but taking it to a flamenco jazz fusion remake. We hope you like our part 3!

Daydreamers on the Spanish Highway - Part 3 - Featuring Jamie Rhind

It was already a long time that I had in mind making a little tribute to one of my all time favorite guitarists. A man that has been on stage as long as I live and has had a major influence on guitar music and fusion music.
I first heard his work in the early eighties when a cool uncle of mine would make mixtapes for me of some of his favorite music, mainly fusion and jazz rock. I was blown away as a kid.
Now through all these years this music continues to stay with me and I am glad that I could make a combined acoustic-electric tune with latin percussion and string accompaniment to celebrate that.

I hope you enjoy and know who I am referring to with this song title: Señor Al.

Update! Now this tune has the marvelous Mirko Borach aka Stringburner on bass, to add a bit more to the flavor!

Recently I found the work of a fantastic trumpet player and composer here on SoundCloud: Vivek Patel https://soundcloud.com/vivek-patel. It was always my wish to have a truly great trumpet player on one of my flamencoated tracks, for one because trumpet is one of my favorite instruments in it's sound, dynamic range and voice-like expression. Secondly, Jazz is one of the musical styles I love, in which I always was most exited about the trumpet solos. 

To increase the excitement I also asked my SC buddy, the great fretless bassplayer Mirko Borach https://soundcloud.com/stringburner to join in the fun, who always brings such a thrilling drive to the music and such rich tone.

This one is as I call it a flamencoated track which blends several styles. From flamenco to Jazz, some Middle Eastern motives and a touch of orchestral strings background. This one is a tribute to Michael Brecker's great Two Blocks from the Edge, which I've always loved for it's dark atmosphere. The ones familiar with Brecker's work and catalogue will recognize some of the themes in this one.

I am happy to present this unusual track with an eerie atmosphere and crossover quality: Close to the Edge.

Flamenco Bulerias - Oud & Guitar

I was off to Spain, Barcelona, for a few days and wanted to share this to get in the mood and let you experience a little with me. 

I dedicate this one to a great flamenco guitarist who sadly is no longer among us: Moraito Chico. I once owned a video of him playing a Bulerias, a festive and fast flamenco style, next to the barrels in a wine cellar, great acoustics and the scene completely enhanced the experience. Wonderful... I hope you like my little deviation from the traditional flamenco palo Bulerias: La Vieja Bodega de Vino. I gave it a go here, playing around with the rhythm by escaping in more lyrical passages only to return to the foundation of rhythm and patterns of the standard style again.

A little insight:
The Bulería or Bulerias, in plural, is a derivative style of the flamenco palo group of Soléa, sharing the same rhythmic pattern but much faster. The name Bulerias is probably derived from the Spanish word burlar, meaning "to mock", or bullería, meaning tumult or commotion. So, the bulería is a festive and optimistic palo, initially used in flamenco to round up songs in other styles, such as the Soléa or Alegrías as a kind of finale, increasing speed and enthusiasm. At the end of the 19th century it became so popular, it was developed into it's own style. In essence it is a 12 beat rhythm with accents on the 3,6,8, 10 and 12, it is accompanied by a very recognizable guitar pattern which is used by all flamenco players to start with, which then is used to deviate from in improvisation or in different developments. 
It is considered to be one of the most difficult flamenco styles, due to the virtuosity needed to just play the basic pattern at a fast tempo.
