Kinshasa One Two was made during 5 days of sessions in Kinshasa this summer when the DRC Music collective teamed up with the best of contemporary Congolese musicians and performers. The collective comprises the eclectic production talents of: T-E-E-D (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs), Dan The Automator, Jneiro Jarel, Richard Russell, Actress, Marc Antoine, Alwest, Remi Kabaka, Rodaidh McDonald and Kwes, with album artwork by Hardy Blechman and Aitor Throup.

Damon Albarn & Richard Russell - Hallo interview

Here's a low quality recording of an interview spoken in French with Jupiter Bokondji, one of the key Congolese vocalists featured on the DRC Music 'Kinshasa One Two' album.

It was broadcast recently on Radio Okapi (the UN radio) in the Democratic Republic of Congo the quality is low because it was recorded live on Oxfam's car radio.

They spoke to him for about 8 minutes and played Hallo and Lourds from the album http://drcmusic.org

About Jupiter:
Jupiter Bokondji was born in Kinshasa 48 years ago. The subject of renowned 2007 film ‘The Dance of Jupiter’ and a pivotal member of Bongofolk orchestra and Okwess International (who represented Zaire at the 1999 Market of African Performing Arts), Jupiter used his adolescence spent in East-Berlin and his childhood and adulthood in Kinshasa searching for new sounds and artists and exploring the connections between European and African music. As he puts it: “Today, we find many young groups continuing in my footsteps, dipping into our archives for inspiration; my mission is complete. If I disappeared today, I will have achieved my goal’’. Far from disappearing, Jupiter performed in Kinshasa to an audience of five thousand in October 2011 and was most recently part of the DRC Music album ‘Kinshasa One Two’. His own album ‘Hotel Universe’ will be released in 2012.
