‘She Shook Me Up’ is a huge, uplifting digital ska release from the accomplished Polish riddim machine Dreadsquad, and rising star from Scotland, Singer and MC ,Tom Spirals. The first release from Tom Spirals and DreadSquad in combination, this track consolidates the love and live-show energy that pair the have already lit up dance floors together with, all over the globe; notably, BoomTown in England, Rainbow Serpent in Australia, Neversea in Romania & Walk’n’Skank in Scotland. 

The riddim was originally crafted in 2020 for a bootleg Dreadsquad remix of Koffee’s smash hit ‘Toast’. Even without an official release, this bootleg blew up around the globe, garnering multiple plays from the likes of David Rodigan on BBC Radio 1Xtra; a clear sign to re-voice the riddim for official release. 

The vocals on ‘She Shook Me Up’, provided by Tom Spirals, are a heartfelt blend of slick rub-a-dub flows and sweet soulful melodies that speak about loving someone “just exactly as she is, and precisely as she came.” This upful production, served alongside vibrant artwork by designer Krystian Zelazo, is available digitally on Bandcamp via DreadSquad or Tom Spirals and in all major online stores or streaming platforms.

Dreadsquad’s single sheds new light on the phenomenon commonly known in the reggae world as “versioning’ – different versions of songs and creative recycling of rhythms tracks (riddims). "Reality" is a track originally created by Kasia Malenda with the Krakow-based producer SmokeDaCrackOFF, released on their joint EP and then on "Dub out of Poland Vol. 3", a crucial compilation released in 2009. A few years ago, it was also recorded during one of the rehearsals of the Dreadsquad Live project. Since then, this version has been played at Dreadsquad events as a dubplate. Currently, there is no heavy, slow roots reggae being produced in Poland. I came to such a conclusion when this track piece was so well received during my set at this year's festival in Wolimierz. That is why I decided to finally finish it and put it out as an official release – comments Dreadsquad and adds – I hope that despite the Polish lyrics it will also appeal to my fans around the world, and perhaps this unusual language may attract their attention.

What is “Reality” about? Singer Kasia Malenda recalls: I wrote this at a very difficult moment in my life and I think most of us have had similar experiences in our lives. Two very young people fall in love with each other, but reality creeps into their love over time – routine, adult problems, sacrifices, and compromises. They distance themselves from each other and suddenly it turns out that love alone is not enough for them to be happy together. Persistent clinging to the past shuts them from life lessons and the solace that time brings.

Mastered at Studio AS One in Warsaw, known for their work for the ones as Zion Train or Warsaw Village Band, Dreadsquad’s release also includes an instrumental version.

Interestingly, the author of the artwork is ... artificial intelligence. The illustration is an AI-generated image, created by the Dall*e software within 10 seconds after I typed the phrase "a dark painting of a woman chasing a large shadow" – Dreadsquad reveals.

Dreadsquad's new single is the first announcement of an upcoming instrumental dub album and a reference to a beautiful page in world music history. In 2005, thanks to the soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch's film Broken Flowers, the world discovered Ethiopian jazz. This happened mainly thanks to the characteristic melancholic melody "Yekermo Sew" performed by Mulatu Astatke, known as the "father of Ethio-jazz".
Today, the track takes on a whole new face of reggae dub, and Dreadsquad has dispensed with electronics, inviting an international team of musicians to record.  
"Yekermo Sew" in Amharic means "man of experience and wisdom." Based on Dreadsquad's past experience from years of conquering the musical stages of several continents, this is just another confirmation of the old wisdom that music knows no boundaries.

Superfly Studio proudly presents its milestone 50th release – the single Fool For Love. The track is produced and composed by Marek Bogdański, better known as Dreadsquad, with vocals and lyrics by Dub Princess – a charismatic singer born in Northern England, known for her mesmerizing voice.

Fool For Love is the vocal version of Ethiopian Rhythm, originally featured on Dreadsquad’s album Reggae From The Desert, released in December 2024. The recording features a stellar lineup of musicians: Piotr Zabrodzki on piano and Hammond organ, Kubix on guitar, Alex Hazas on horns, Adam “Bzyq” Brzęczek on drums, and Marek Bogdański himself handling bass, arrangement, mixing, dubbing, and mastering.

This is the third collaborative single from Dreadsquad and Dub Princess, following their earlier tracks Too Much Juggling and No Walls. The song also serves as a preview of their upcoming joint album, scheduled for release next year.

The single has just been sent to the pressing plant and will be released as a limited edition 7-inch lilac vinyl – a must-have for collectors and lovers of analog sound.

Kasia Malenda is one of the most promising Polish female reggae artists of our time. She has graduated music high school in saxophone class. Her parents are professional musicians and as long as she remember, they were "feeding" her with jazz and "black music". From the beginning she was fascinated by many, but she took the most from Erykah Badu, Beady Belle, Jill Scott,Earth, Moloko, Frank Sinatra, Lauryn Hill, Wind& Fire, or Incognito. Those fascinations and music education, have shaped her taste and sensivity. 
Kasia looks for a new inspirations and music experiences for a whole time. She thinks that in extreme projects you can learn most. Her mark is her sensual and delicate voice, with which she moves people's hearts. Music can be seen in her every move, on stage she's very self-confident and professional. Comprehensive talented, for all the time she develop her skills. Private she's volcano of positive energy, which she's giving to other people.


Dreadsquad – producer/DJ duo created in Lodz in 2001 and consisting of Marek Bogdanski (Selecta MMF: DJ, producer, graphic designer, promoter) and Lukasz Rodziewicz (DJ Funksion). In 2003 and 2004 they won the Polish Sound Clash.

They have worked with many European and Jamaican reggae artists (e.g. Ward 21, Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, U Brown, Milion Stylez, Lady Chann, Tipa Irie, Jah Mason, Perfect, Dr Ring Ding)
Dreadsquad’s tunes and gigs are the fusion of reggae, dancehall, ska, rocksteady and hip-hop. The duo freely mixes genres, plays with sounds and bases their music on deep bass and broken rhythm. They often combine Jamaican music with modern sounds of Breakbeat, Jungle, Dubstep and Garage.
According to the musicians themselves, their music – being energetic and lively – is made for dancing and having fun. And they are right. Go to one of their gigs and you will surely hit the dance floor. Music is their passion, hobby, way of life and it shows.

The original track, ‘A Girl Like You’ by Edwin Collins is a classic piece of music that throughout his childhood had influenced Dreadsquad without him even realising it and then when in his later years he heard it played in a taxi he knew right away that he had to make a Reggae version of it. It’s this relationship with the song that makes this cover authentic.

The lyrics are strong and unique whilst the melody is infectious, and the way that Blackout delivers the song with his rough, raspy tone gives a whole new angle for everyone who hears it to enjoy. It’s the first time that Blackout has recorded a cover and it’s one of two love songs that feature on their album ‘World Destruction’.

Dreadsquad's output has been prolific but always full of quality. True blue Jamaicans such as the "Deejay Daddy" U Brown, Ward 21, Perfect Giddimani and Scarra Mucci are as well representing as Germany's Ska and Dancehall veteran Dr. Ring Ding, the Britain based Lady Chann, El Fata, Tenor Fly and Blackout, and Kasia Malenda, Poland's answer to Adele and Amy Winehouse -- to name but a few.
You will find a dynamic mix of authentic Jamaican riddims and styles with modern bass-heavy genres from a producer at the top of his game -- a variety that spans from old school Ska to the digital computerized style of the eighties and from heavy electronic Dub to rootsy Rock Steady.
On top of that, Dreadsquad shows off amazing remixing skills -- foremost in the atmospheric dubby reworking of the infamous Polish 'suicide tango' To Ostatnia Niedziela, using the vocals of the original 1936 recording by Mieczysław Fogg.

The Dreadsquad sound is always lively and full of energy, making you want to hit the dance floor and have fun -- music is their life and their passion, and you can hear that in the music.

DREADSQUAD

Dreadsquad are a Polish production duo formed in 2001.
They have cooperated with the cream of the Polish reggae and hip hop scene as well as many European and Jamaican reggae artists (e.g. Ward 21, Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, U Brown, Milion Stylez, Lady Chann, Tipa Irie, Jah Mason, Perfect & Dr Ring Ding)

Their songs and gigs are the fusion of reggae, dancehall, ska, rocksteady and hip-hop. The duo freely mixes genres, plays with sounds and bases their music on deep bass and broken rhythm. They often combine Jamaican music with modern sounds of Breakbeat, Jungle, Dubstep and Garage.

Dreadsquad - Poland's staple Reggae Dancehall export


The Dreadsquad project has put Poland on the map for creating dancefloor friendly riddim and bassline madness. From the Superfly Studio in Lodz comes tune after tune combining Jamaican sounds of of Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Ska and Rocksteady with the modern sounds of Breakbeat, Jungle, Dubstep and Garage.


Dreadsquad was launched during 2001 and what followed was a flurry of mashups, remixes and Polish Sound Clash victories which gave confidence to turn a passion into a way of life for the man at the controls, Marek Bogdanski. Hundreds of gigs in Poland turned into European tours and now Dreadsquad has toured as far as the USA, Canada, Brazil & India.


Always in demand, Dreadsquad has worked with plenty of top Jamaican and European artists including Ward 21, Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, U Brown, Milion Stylez, Lady Chann, Tipa Irie, Jah Mason, Perfect Giddimani, Dr Ring Ding…the list goes on.
