Dream Coast - Forever December

Time signature switches and dozens of delayed drum tracks create a surreal, dreamlike state on the final track of 'Golden Haze'. "Initially we wanted this song to loop around and transition into track one of the album, like a snake eating it's own tail." 

At the time of writing, Josh lost a close friend who struggled with mental health. “He would often obsess and try to understand the cycles and seemingly endlessly-looping problems of the world around us. We re-wrote the song in memory of him with a hopeful message — closing the loop or ‘snake’ and learning to dance to the music of life.”

Dream Coast - Snakedance

High-rise Smile is nightmarish track complete with waxing and waning synth layers against trip-hop percussion. An early version of the song was created in the final chaotic days of the 2016 US presidential election, coinciding with Josh being isolated from friends and family in the middle of the bush on teaching prac. “It was a particularly dark time in the world, I had a dream about a city consuming everything. The high-rise buildings of Brisbane were like the jagged teeth of a huge smiling monster,” Josh says.

Dream Coast ft. Kodiak Empire - High-rise Smile

Soft and tender, Crystal Cascades is a “comedown” track; the popular Cairns swimming area being its namesake. The track was created by layering synths in randomised sequences and different time signatures, then taking parts and fading them in and out.

Dream Coast - Crystal Cascades

Releaser was made to be a pure escapist moment of euphoria, release from all worry. Anthemic and the most dancefloor-focussed cut on the album, Releaser was created from cutting up parts of an 8-hour jam session.

“We have tested a lot of different versions of this song in clubs over the last year. After a lot of improvisation and happy accidents it is like the parts of the song that remain have wished themselves into existence. It was a real exercise in letting go of control and embracing weightlessness.”

Dream Coast’s 2018 debut ‘Golden Haze’ saw support from Triple J, Unearthed, Triple R, Happy Mag, Purple Sneakers and Stoney Roads. Singles ‘Releaser’ & ‘Forever December’ are featured on a number of national Spotify playlists.

2019 will see the band showcase their immersive live set at Bigsound and other Brisbane clubs in support of ‘Weightless’.

Dream Coast - Weightless

Making waves in the Queensland electronic music scene, Dream Coast bring heart to the dancefloor with their unique synth-washed sound. Featuring swirling synthesiser melodies and heavy beats, the duo owe as much to electronic acts Jon Hopkins and Kiasmos as they do to 80's soundtrack legends Tangerine Dream and John Carpenter.

Dream Coast’s 2018 debut ‘Golden Haze’ saw support from Triple J, Unearthed, Triple R, Happy Mag, Purple Sneakers and Stoney Roads. Amongst a string of hypnotic club sets and a set at 'Arcadia Festival’, the end of 2019 will see the duo bring their full synth set to BIGSOUND in support of their single ‘Weightless’.
