Mix of the Week #371: Akasha System

There was a period in time when everyone could be exactly what they wanted to be, a mullet-haired astronaut in front of a paper mâché starship panel, a blond native american dancing around a camp fire, a pirate on the sea drinking whiskey, wine and gin. The european disco scene of the 70s offered any possible scenery to day-dream in every (for today's listeners possibly politically incorrect)way. This episode will offer a jouney through Frinda's german/austro selection in the first hour and songs about robots, food, good batteries, disco dancing, space aliens, and – of course – love when it comes to Geoffrey's set.

Geoffrey LaRue believes that there is no life without glamour. Having grown up in Detroit, the visual artist and record collector recently moved to Berlin to desperately miss pizza and follow their childhood dream of being just like Steven Spielberg by studying stage design at UDK. Although Geoffrey is primarily known for the humorous guest lists at their disco party series "Suck It!”, they are now dedicated to manufacturing drama and to be honest, I envision them one day to create brain-melting deco and stage design for Cocktail or Buttons party without even owing a single plain black t-shirt in Berlin. I came across this human with varied interests at Humboldthain in 2019 when they opened their set playing G Bri's – Non Rompere followed by a mesmerizing uptempo cosmic disco set that just blew everyone away.

Kennedy again uses the power of machines to translate his late-night dreams and spaced-out thoughts into two tracks of borderless hi tech soul music. This second musical manifestation of dreams is the newest in a unique series of thoughts, sensations and sounds occurring from a person's mind, translated by machines.

These are sounds that are always playing somewhere in your deepest subconscious mind. Like a portal into another dimension where predictable arrangements do not exist. Chords seep and bleed into one another. Melodies drop from above like the liquid colours of an acid trip. They have blurred edges. The cloudy focus of each track means you sink in deep and latch on to an astral synth line that takes you higher, or find yourself gazing in wonder at the sci-fi bleeps that gently drift by.

The mix represents a variety of italian cosmic classics with nower days slow tempo electronic bangers and shows the origin of my passion for electronic music. It covers 70s and 80s electronic music e.g. from Logic System, Peru or Koto often played by the italian DJ grand masters like Danielle Baldelli mixed with sounds mainly from the DEEWEE sphere. The tracks are full of synthy sounds and clashes on slow tempo around 100bpm. Starting with an incredible track from Bolis Pupul - Moon Theme, catching up exactly the vibe of those days. Enjoy the Ride.
