Asymptomatrix is drum’n’bass jazztronica meets lo-fi funk/hip-hop breaks, broadly fitting under the umbrella of ‘new era jazz’. For this single, Marks joins the dots between his love of jazz, electronica, drum’n’bass and hip-hop. Imagine John Coltrane or Kamasi Washington collaborating with LTJ Bukem for Def Jam recordings. This is an energetic and happy track that transports listeners into a ’jazztronica matrix’. It’s a soundtrack that combines the real with the surreal, and almost feels like it belongs in a videogame. 

The opening synthesizer trons plug into the listener’s mind, accelerating them through an infinitely revolving tunnel that fills the senses: lush jazz harmonies, driving Thundercat-esque bass-lines, flying ARP-strings and a tenor saxophone sound that is so enveloping, you feel like one of the great masters from the jazz lineage has come back to the future. The first half of this track is driven by a heavy Drum’n’Bass feel, before it unexpectedly takes a twist into a break-beat hip-hop groove, as if the listener enters a new world. As the track finds its new pocket, the stage is set for a blistering post-bop / late 60’s style tenor sax solo from rising NYC star Sam Dillon (Mingus Big Band, Birdland Big Band, Village Vanguard Orchestra). 

Marks wrote, performed, recorded and produced all the synthesizer elements, while his close collaborator Doron Lev performs drums, alongside Dillon on tenor saxophone.

Drawing on post-punk, new wave and synthpop to forge a unique electronic rock sound, Dream Prescription is one of those rare bands that can transform the challenges of life into artful recordings and still put on an electrifying show that feels like a party. 

Dream Prescription has released two EPs and numerous singles, with their 2024 releases notching over 70k streams on Spotify. The band's latest singles have elicited praise from the likes of New Noise Magazine, who called Out Of My Head "a high octane thrill ride", and Earmilk, who lauded Settle Down as "riveting". Based in New York and formed as a duo in 2020, the band expanded their live lineup in 2023 to a full band, and their shows at well respected NYC venues such as The Bowery Electric and Berlin Under A have been met with enthusiastic responses. 

Dream Prescription is led by vocalist / guitarist / songwriter Tim Robert, whose career has included writing and performing for rock theater as well as producing and DJing electronic dance music. Robert made stirs in the international EDM scene, being called "one of the USA's brightest stars" by Release Promo DJ Pool and appearing at the prestigious Amsterdam Dance Event festival. 

Robert has enlisted several top-notch collaborators for Dream Prescription, beginning with synthesist Kent Friedman. Robert and Friedman met while playing DJ gigs together and went on to collaborate on remixes for each other. The band's live lineup now includes drummer Adam Fischel and bassist / vocalist David Leatherwood, whose resume includes touring with supporting bands for acts such as Duran Duran.

Robert explains the project's mission: "I want our music to wrestle with questions of what we want, what we dream of, and the challenges people face in making their dreams a reality. My goal is to make our recordings and live shows a fun and cathartic experience for our fans." 

Why doesn't the real world live up to the world of dreams? How can we know what we want in the face of the bizarre distortions of modern society? Dream Prescription drives headlong into these questions with electronic music for the future.
