Chris Roman aka 214 hurls himself out of the gate at 140bpm for our latest Dreamcast, a pace that lets up only slightly across the next 75 minutes. This is a masterclass in electro and its manifold signifiers: 80s stabs, cosmic pads, austere vocals, liquid acid, Drexciyan robo funk…it's all here, blended together with the intimate skill of a craftsman. Chris lives in the rocky wilderness of the North West, and if you stick this on and close your eyes you can just picture those vertiginous peaks and the fever dreams they’ve inspired.

Bio:
Label Owner, DJ & Producer aka Energy No13 & InerVation
Mike Griffin got his start in the electronic music industry in the mid-1990s, first producing and subsequently mixing. He's played many parties and clubs in the South Florida area, making electronic music under the aliases Energy N°13 and InerVation, and now owns the EC Underground label, shop, and radio broadcast.

Energy No. 13 is the name behind the South Florida native who grew up listening to rock and metal music. In the mid-1990s, he entered the electronic music scene, where he began by producing and quickly advanced to mixing. Throughout the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, several older tracks were released on Myspace. In South Florida, he has played at numerous after-hours events and clubs. Mike Griffin began making electronic music under the name Energy No13, later changing his name to InerVation to encompass a wider range of genres. He is now the co-owner of EC Underground, a record company with many disciplines in the business, including retail stores and a distribution hub for multiple labels from overseas. EC Underground (WECU) can be heard on Mixlr, a broadcasted radio station dedicated to the most avant-garde genres of electronic music.

In celebration of 606 day (the 6th of June) I have put together a non-stop mix of songs that feature the Roland TR-606 drum machine. This mix is focused only on Electro.

The TR-606 & TB-303 launched together in 1981 as a matched pair to provide solo artists the chance to practice without other individuals, solely using the TR-606 and TB-303 as drums and bass lines to practice to, but the programming and artificial sounds made the boxes uncomfortable to use and they soon lost their luster. With a punching, mids-focused sound somewhere between the tone of the 909 and the 808, the 606 was a compact and visually-direct drum machine that had a much more discreet form factor than its siblings. The 606 has a tight punch rather than the boom of the 808, and the percussion has a distinctly metallic quality, even the snare. This gives the 606 a unified feeling that has captured the imaginations of artists for generations.
