MONEY IMMORTAL REMIX (vox x dream tiger)

ep 1 is Liz Wolf’s first new work since 2015’s EP The Sea. Within this 5 year span the Cincinnati artist and frequent WHY? contributor’s work has drifted into the realm of visual and installation based art. In her return to the recorded format, these three songs, recorded while under quarantine in her house that she shares with her husband and creative partner Josiah Wolf (also of WHY?), are widescreen compositions that seek universal meaning in minute observations and cosmic mysteries during a time that threatens to reduce our scope to our own solipsistic ends.
Wolf’s dark pop sensibilities are held in perfect tension with neo-classical instrumentation and compositional instincts.  ep1 is full of deeply resonating strings, keys and marimba weaving between deep 808 kicks, distorted bass lines and complex, three-dimensional rhythmic patterns. In a way ep1 recalls Nils Frahm’s world-bridging experiments with pop and contemporary classical music. Wolf’s distinctive vocals are laser-focused here –  exploring chance connections and memory chained cause-and-effect on “Magnificent Path”, disillusionment in “Gold” and profound insignificance in facing something bigger than ourselves in “Crystalized”. 
Released as the first of a series of EP’s in the midst of a global pandemic that necessitates physical separation, Dream Tiger’s new work feels vital as ever.

In her return to the recorded format, these three songs, recorded while under quarantine at hexagon house with then husband and creative partner Josiah Wolf (WHY?), are widescreen compositions that seek universal meaning in minute observations and cosmic mysteries during a time that threatened to reduce our scope to our own solipsistic ends.

Bourdaine’s distinctive vocals are laser-focused here –  disillusionment of youth and a yearning for acceptance in “Gold”, with lyrics taken from a poem written by her father to her mother and memory chained cause-and-effect on “Magnificent Path”, and  profound solitude in facing something bigger than ourselves in “Crystalized”.
