It’s a love song. I said I wouldn’t write one but it’s the type of song that is honest about love. Sometimes you need to be delicate with a relationship so that you can show the other person you care for them and want to grow with them too. I wrote this song on a whim but it’s become one that is close to my heart. I managed to get the wonderful Mali Jo$e on the track which was really cool too.

This song captures my personal journey and experiences with my hair. I am fortunate to have versatile hair, allowing me to wear braids (my preferred style), wigs, weaves, or leave it natural. Recently, I have increasingly felt that I am treated differently because of my hair. From childhood through adulthood, I have many stories to share. However, I have chosen this moment to voice my perspective. My objective is not to change the world or assert that I am right, but simply to present a different viewpoint.

"It’s protection, but you won’t understand." Braids are not only a protective hairstyle but also a shield for my heart against remarks that my hair is "unprofessional" or "too wild." Despite my consistent assertions, people still feel compelled to touch my hair without permission and offer unsolicited comments. I will always fight for what I believe is right; it's just a matter of knowing when to do so.
