One week ago, an unspeakable act of violence occurred on my college campus.  A lone gunman entered a classroom and took two innocent lives, injured four others, and shook the community as a whole.

I made this song to honor of the lives a Riley Howell and Ellis “Reed” Parlier and the four others — Rami Alramadhan, Sean Dehart, Emily Houpt, and Drew Pescaro — that received injuries.  Rather than make a sad song to memorialize the victims, I decided to capture the strength,  heroism, and unity of students, first-responders, and the community at large.  Many of my classmates, myself included, struggle to make sense of what happened and return back to normal.  I want to commemorate the actions of the first responders who ran into uncertain danger when nobody else would, and undoubtedly saved many lives.  Finally, I am tremendously grateful for the support of my family and community who have not left my side. 

I’ve grown up hearing about school shooting all my life.  I’ve been affected by them all my life.  We all have.  This is not a people problem or a gun problem, it is an everything and everyone problem.  If there is to be an end to these senseless acts of violence, we must take action and be the change we want to see in this world.
