Among the inspirations for creating the series, which aims to incorporate mixtapes from various artists, is the concept of "acoustemology" developed by Steven Feld. Here, sound is explored as an experiential nexus, where the act of sounding is simultaneously social and material. Acoustemology combines acoustics and epistemology to investigate the practices of sounding and listening as forms of knowledge in action – a knowing-with and a knowing-through the audible.

The logical connection of acoustemology with relational ontology is existential relationality, the connectivity of being, constructed from intertwined experience. This perspective sees sound and the act of sounding as "situational," exploring the "mutual" and "ecological" space of sonic knowledge as "polyphonic," "dialogical," and "unfinalizable."

According to Feld, the aim is to investigate knowledge and sound, paying special attention to the reflexive correlation between sounding and listening. This knowledge is always experiential, contextual, fallible, mutable, contingent, emergent, timely, subjective, constructed, and selective. Knowing through relationships means that, instead of simply "acquiring" knowledge, the subject comes to know through a continuous, cumulative, and interactive process of participation and reflection, shaped by direct perception, memory, deduction, transmission, or problem-solving. A acustemologia combina acústica e epistemologia para investigar as práticas de soar e escutar como formas de conhecimento em ação – um saber-com e um saber-através do audível.

A conexão lógica da acustemologia com a ontologia relacional é a relacionalidade existencial, a conectividade do ser, construída a partir da experiência entrelaçada. Esta perspectiva vê o som e o ato de soar como "situacionais", explorando o espaço "mútuo" e "ecológico" do saber sônico como "polifônico", "dialógico" e "infinalizável".

Segundo Feld, o objetivo é investigar o conhecimento e o som, prestando especial atenção à correlação reflexiva entre soar e escutar. Jhonat (@jhonattt), DJ and local journalist from Brasília and a dear friend of mine, is the guest #01 of the series "collecting in another dimension". 

I consider Jhon a DJ who goes beyond the stages, being a genuine collector of moments in raves, festivals, and electronic music parties. With unparalleled dedication to experiencing different facets of this universe, he carries with him a vast repertoire of "dance floor lessons."

His keen ear for hypnotic tones is reflected in this mix as an immersive sound set, which is both euphoric and cozy, marked by heavy beats yet surrounded by a melancholic and contemplative atmosphere, flirting with genres like techno, ambient, IDM, and trance.

In her words: 'my show is essentially an ongoing project that aims to explore the varying ways in which sound can be remedial.' 

After sending the set and chatting with her via email, I said – 'In the end, I was thinking: this one was deep lol, something like dark meditations... but now I suddenly perceived some things about it and yes, it's dark, but it's full of love and contemplation about the idea of sound, and sound being, maybe, the one way to communicate about certain feelings that are so subjective'. And she told me: 'That's precisely why I have this show~ as a space to really experiment and explore that subjectivity of sound.' ꨄ So, I think this is the mindset for listening to this particular set 𓆞𖦹

@drendiela é artista visual e estudante de antropologia forasteira na cidade de Brasília. Dois anos atrás começou a produzir sound collages estranhas e experimentais que atravessam os gêneros downtempo e ambiente com elementos de glitch, a fim de criar paisagens sonoras. Recentemente deu início ao seu projeto como Djeia a-gênero, sendo esse um dos seus primeiros sets. Cheio de emoção e melancolia, sentimentos tão presentes no momento que estamos vivendo de pandemia, espera que essa história em forma de setlist possa trazer um pouco de conforto para aquelus que a escutarem.

Drendiela is a brazilian sound and visual artist. This DJ set was inspired by Chapada dos Veadeiros landscape, a paradisiacal place, made of hills, waterfalls and rivers. As a versatile person, her musical research reflects this characteristic through ambient, downtempo, experimental, minimal, world, new age, abstract, folktronika, digital cumbia, dark ambient and dark wave exploration.

(M)onde sonore #11 - Drendiela

drendiela is the name and concept that DJ, visual artist, and anthropologist Julia Mota adopted in 2016, after crossing paths with a magical Colombian traveler and illusionist. When the magician asked her name, she responded with another question: "What name do you think I have?" The answer was "drendiela," followed by a story about its meaning.

In essence, drendiela represents an imagistic person who transits between worlds, a time traveler who crosses binary divisions, moving through the past, present, and future. Since that singular encounter, Julia has been bringing this character to life, adding new layers of meaning. Julia merges with drendiela when she signs her artistic creations with this name.

For Julia, a native of Paracatu (tupi-guarani name that means ‘good river’), a city in Minas Gerais that hosts one of the largest open-pit gold mines in the world, and living in Brasília, the capital of Brazil, an "idealized city," since the age of seven, drendiela symbolizes a dream, a utopia, an unfinished code, a disruption, and decentralization. It is a continuous experiment whose purpose is to expand our capacities to imagine other possible worlds, other lines and curves, narratives, textures, sensations and techniques; – to unite the improbable, dig into the concrete to reach the subjective.
