
Oracle bones is a musical language system and formal organizing principle developed to create highly structured formal containers inspired by nature through which improvisors realize musical materials contained within them with a high degree of freedom. This contrast creates an interesting friction allowing for a unique listening experience in each performance.

Oracle Bones I is based around the perception of macro polyrhythms on several scales throughout a 41 minute duration. These polyrhythms are articulated by changes made by each individual player between seven layer types that indicate a type of musical activity. The structure of these changes over time was proportionally determined by numerological systems and modulated by the chaos of chance operations derived from atmospheric noise during the composition process.
