Driftwood Bones began in 2012 while its founding members -- Dante De Grazia, Jake Allen, Elly Williams, and Will Krageschmidt-- were still in high school. They wrote and recorded a self-titled EP of lo-fi, piano-driven folk in Dante’s parents’ basement. In the years since then, life has pushed and pulled the band in all kinds of directions. The four original members moved everywhere from Minneapolis to Decorah to Chicago. Lead guitarist Seamus St. Clair and bassist Ben Leonhardi joined the band as Driftwood’s musical vision grew more ambitious. The band’s sound changed, as folk transformed into indie-rock with folk, funk, and modern rock influences. But through it all, the band stayed together. Singer and primary songwriter Will Krageschmidt's wry observations on love, aging, loss and childhood mingle with Elly Williams' sweet, aching harmonies over a thrilling tangle of jazz-inflected keys by Dante De Grazia. Over the deft backbeat of drummer Jake Allen, disparate influences from The Doors to early Vampire Weekend collide in a vibrant and varied sound that reimagines indie-rock as something daring and omnivorous.
