Mugisha Barack Donatien, better known by his stage name, “DrippDaDon,” is a Zambian-American, Singer- Songwriter, Rapper, and Music Producer based in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in the small town of Maheba, Zambia, in the continent of Africa. 

At the age of four, Dripp’s parents fled their homeland because of the Genocide taking place in Rwanda and relocated to the United States. Once in the states, his family moved to Columbus, where he grew up facing the many challenges immigrant youth endure when acclimating to American Culture. 

As a result of his unconventional and culturally disparate upbringing, Dripp’s musical influences have global appeal. Artist like, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Chris Tomlin, Wizkid, Sarkodie, Chris Brown, Ed Sheehan, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Pharrell, numerous Disney Channel veterans even Country music artist like Morgan Wallen and Martina McBride all inform his approach to songwriting.

While in elementary school, Dripp began playing the piano until he reached high school, when he joined the Marching Band at Linden McKinley STEM Academy. Under the direction of Mr. Stephen Ingram, Dripp took the challenge of playing the trombone for Linden’s Marching Band for all four years of high school.

By the age of 16, the trilingual, genre-bending artist was producing, writing, and engineering his own songs that blended together influences of Pop, Afrobeat, Amapiano, World, Hip-hop, R&B, and even country music.

His first EP, titled “Sides Of Me,” showcased his versatility as an artist, producer, and songwriter and as a result of its success, Dripp earned an opening performance opportunity for Diamond Platnumz, one of Africa’s biggest stars. 

After performing at a house party, Dripp was invited to perform at The Ohio State University’s African Night, where he captivated the thousands in attendance. The success of this performance led to invitations to perform at numerous colleges and universities around the country.

Dripp says, “I plan on making sure my music bridges the gap between my fellow Africans and black Americans. I want to show that we are all descendants of the motherland. I want to inspire other kids like me to not only follow their dreams, but to do it in their own way. I will make a difference in the music industry... Mark My Words!”
