This Damned Apparition

Bismillah scrawled on the face of a truck 
A polaroid snapshot I can't place in time
The edges are frayed with smudges and dust

Headlights lean forward into a wavering road
the sky presses down, thick with unfinished stories

The engine is stalled like this lifetime on hold

Steve Martin (the famous Steve Martin) posts absurd phone photos on facebook and this song was prompted by one. It's a lid on a floor captioned, "BIG NEWS! This lid landed on the floor and didn't roll under a chair or counter or anything. It landed and stayed." Joe provide an instrumental seed he named "Diddly Shit" and I used that as the music basis writing the lyric and then arranging it in sunoai.

The music comes from an old 4-track multitrack cassette recording done in my college years. The song was called You Tear Me In Two. The chorus was "You, you tear me in two, babe…" repeated and repeated. The guitar sounds like I was playing through my old Roland 20W amp. It had a kind of raw Fender Twin sound, I think, and I played it with a kind of abandon I wish I had more examples to mine now. I've written new lyrics here.
