Another great tune to see us through lockdown 🤙

Seafields’ genesis came about from a particular journey to the sea post the first UK lockdown.

I had grown used to visiting the sea and coastline regularly. This is something I have never taken for granted.

I don’t think I actually realized how stressed I had become, but as I spent time on the beach the ending, or at least the substituting of those daily stresses became apparent.

I’ve lived almost my entire life by or close to the sea. It is something I have grown to recognize the older i get as somewhere that grounds me, clears my mind and ultimately inspires me again and again.

I am grateful for that day by the sea because it helped my family and I put a very strange time into perspective. 'Seafields' is simply an attempt to illustrate that inspiration and time spent walking the coastline.

The Sustain Series project continues with its second volume, 24 recycled forms created from old and unused material. Since the release of Volume 1 in November last year, more artists have come together to salvage, repurpose, restore and deconstruct each other’s pieces, or collaborate on a particular idea. What results is a growing variety of approaches and outputs, from minor embellishments to full disfigurement.

Volume 2 moves thematically, as if in four chapters, from the expressive openers, through enchanting natural-sounding pieces, before opening up to more ethereal expanses, and finally darker and more thoughtful ones. As it does, visions emerge of our natural world - its power, its beauty and its vulnerability.

Ilan Volkov — conductor and musician. Served as principal conductor of the Scottish BBC Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Founder and artistic director of the Tectonics Festival, a world-renowned platform for new and experimental music that takes place every year in Glasgow, Athens and Tel Aviv and has previously also taken place in Reykjavik, New York and Melbourne.

Ohad Fishof – An artist who works in the fields of sound, dance, performance and visual art. Began his artistic path in the 1980s with the band נושאי המגבעת and has since developed a unique body of work of time-based idiosyncratic art, in a sequence that includes stabilizers, musical works, video works, place-dependent performances and dance works.

Boogie Beams

Ilan Volkov and Ohad Fishof — Boogie Beams (Stellage, 2021)

Back in 2019 me and my wife were traveling through South East Asia (and eventually got ‘stuck’ in Australia because of the world famous pandemic but that’s another story) and I recorded a bamboo water tumbler (if that’s the correct word for it) in Pam Bok near Pai in Thailand. I always wanted to use the sound of the tumbler (and the small creek it was standing in) but couldn’t find the right spot for it. Now I finally found use for it in this little meditative sounding ambient song. The title is a (rough) translation of how the locals call this bamboo bridge ([Boon] Kho Ku Sui or Kho Ku So).

Exclusive track taken from Olan Mill's latest offering “Curves”, released on Shimmering Moods Records as a limited edition CD / tape...

This record was completed on either side of a trip to Myanmar at the end of 2016 - it captures a time of total change as I prepared to become a father and relocate to Germany.

Built upon field recordings from my home and various work environments I found myself reflecting on places I had spent hours of my life living, working and growing. Layers of processed guitar, synthesisers and voice were added to create a time-capsule of locations and experiences. - Alex Smalley
