From the Mouth of the Sun return to film music with the original score for the documentary short “A Broken House” (directed by Jimmy Goldblum) about Syrian architect and artist Mohamad Hafez.

Dag Rosenqvist and Aaron Martin evoke the feeling of a person attempting to recapture a home that no longer exists with their core instruments of piano, cello, pump organ, bowed banjo, and others. This release features the complete film score along with additional tracks only available on the soundtrack.

With ‘No Further Than the Present’ it was Adrian’s intention to take the music further into the realm of ambient music than he had explored before. In this album the synthesizer is more prominent, including the use of the 1978 Jen Synthetone SX1000 which he has had since he was 16 years old. However, each piece also has strong neo-classical elements with melancholic contrapuntal strings appearing in most tracks.

Adrian Lane produces quiet, intimate neo-classical music that explores sounds from acoustic sources, mixed with electronic but organic sounding ones. The music feels acoustic, and employs a combination of age-old instruments (piano, violin, alto and baritone bowed psalteries, acoustic guitar, banjo, zither, glockenspiel) mixed with synthesizers and virtual instruments and constructed in a way that could only be achieved with modern technology. Adrian likes to tread the line between the real and the synthetic so that it is difficult for the listener to discern which is which.

Adrian Lane has released 10 albums to date, on the labels; Whitelabrecs, Hibernate Recordings and Preserved Sound, and each album focuses on a different palette of sounds. Some albums are largely piano based, and others focusing more on stringed instruments.

DR-69 : PORYA HATAMI - Kani + Remixes (incl. Darren McClure, Purl, Arovane, Tomotsugu Nakamura, Sven Laux) 

Originally released in 2013 on the Inner Ocean label, Porya Hatami’s “Kani” was a four track EP showcasing his intimate take on modern ambient music. The Iranian artist has issued a large number of albums that imbue pastoral ambient with subtle field recordings and melodies. The melodic aspect of Hatami’s work took centre stage in this release, and shone bright across the four pieces.

So now, seven years later, “Kani” is being given the reissue that it deserves, and will delight those listeners new to it, and those who are rediscovering it again. Besides the original four tracks, there are an additional five remixes by artists working in a similar orbit to Hatami, and some who have collaborated directly with him in the past.

These reworks cover plenty of ground, reimagining the source material into new shapes. Some remixes extend the foggy soundscapes and conjure delicate melodic plucks. Others add mellow pulses that infer rhythm under the washes of sound, while others take these rhythmic ideas much further.

PORYA HATAMI - Kani (night) (Arovane Remix)

This is a series of sketch-like works that arose out of the need for me to create an atmosphere when working in the studio. A loop would be made then I'd start the prep work for that session. The loop may even inspire the output and work created for that day.
