Forbidden Dance Records sure does know how to signup the big boys with previous EPs from Patrice Scott and Dego making a fine impression. Next up is another house don, this time from Chicago: Specter can really go wild with his rhythms and raw textures as shown on EPs for Theo Parrish's label, but here he starts off with something soulful, dusty round the edges and deep. 'Putazo' then finds him embracing the occult with edgy and glassy synth lines zipping about more turbulent groves. 'Run The Course' is a grinding and mechanical groove of the sort he does so well, then 'Humble Pie' is all fizzing lo-fi synths and scuzzy drums patterns.

Bassline rhythms, soul drenched house fusion cuts and quality ugly tones. Tip!

Like a phoenix from the ashes, or Ukrainian culture after centuries of demolition, the Kyiv based label Noneside Records is experiencing its revival and rebirth. After all, «Nothing will stop an idea whose time has come» - these words of chief Stepan Bandera make it clear to everyone: if you really burn with sincere emotion for your dream - no difficulties will stop you on the way to its realization.

Five unique tracks from Slava Los, Yevhenii Loi, Lostlojic, Luschn and aqua. - it's a tech house with elements of trance with soul and passion from musicians who write music despite the war. Visualization of the whole action on the record is the picture «The hug» by the Lviv artist Oles Derega.

Slava Los makes his debut on vinyl with the beautiful track «Snus» - old school trance in the best traditions. The author now defends the borders in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so he decided to fulfill his old dream about the vinyl. Yevgeny Loi is also currently in the military, but this did not prevent him from making a new version of «Bounce» - a trance for a slow, erotic dance mood. Lostlojic, who is also the art director of the project, recalls the important message of «Send Me F16» in the uncompromising track of the same name, or rather in its VIP version created especially for the release. Known to vinyl collectors for releases on Deeptrax and Infinite Pleasure. Luschn, a Kyiv legend and mega productive musician, known to tech house maniacs for his releases on Vector.Kyiv and Noneside, invites you to have fun and crazy dances with friends to his rehearsed «Ostinato Transdanz». Newbie aqua. has a unique recognizable style, where the rhythm is constantly changing in each track, nostalgic for the favorite place of childhood - near the Hydroelectric Station in Zaporizhzhia, crazy beats and steppe motifs in the track «H.E.S.».

Nothing will stop an idea

The 2024 of New Interplanetary Melodies begins with a new album and an EP signed by ABYSSY, the historical producer from Bologna who returns to Simona Faraone’s label after a few years since the release of his previous works, Magnetic Archive (NIM001, 2016) under his alias Soulomon, and Two Scorpions EP (NIM002, 2017) under the name ABYSSY, which marked NIM's adventure in the world of contemporary Italian independent record labels.
ABYSSY is the musical project that combines the Italian producer's previous experiences with his entire world of musical influences: from the proto-techno of The Electrifying Mojo to the heart of Detroit techno and Chicago house, from the minimalism of Philip Glass to the sound of the Berlin school of the '70s, embracing electro, the heavy use of synthesizers from the minimal wave, and the science-fiction lesson of Kraftwerk. All of this encompasses the territories of '70s and '80s NY black music, drawing from funk, disco, boogie, seminal hip-hop, and breaks. It's a flow of eclecticism and hybrid energies that we also find in his latest works, EXTRA META LP + EXTRA META EP, an album and an EP that are intrinsically connected to each other and have multiple shades.

The album starts with the ecstatic Samba Temperado (A1), which takes us back to the glory days of German Kraut while Mars Trax (A2), Acid Rio (A3), and Quantuum (A4) catapult us into the depths of refined and twisted Detroit techno.

The B side opens with the beautiful Vectrex (B1), a track with a New York's disco-not-disco flavour, followed by the electric house music of Mixed Feeling (B2), a true gem for enthusiasts of more outsider sounds. With Italodoppler (B3), the arrangements become decidedly more '80s and sugary but have a sure grip on the most demanding dancefloors. We could consider ourselves satisfied, but ABYSSY and NIM also offer us two bonus tracks (only in digital format) that further enrich the spectrum of sounds presented in EXTRA META LP: the swirling ambient of Supernova (DGTL1) and the carefree proto-house extravaganza of Ordnateur Numerique (DGTL2).

The journey with ABYSSY's music continues with EXTRA META EP, a natural continuation of the album, starting with the over 14-minute crescendo of C3C6 (A1), a true intergalactic techno journey. Lower Milky Way (B1) nods towards the most elegant Italo disco sounds, and the EP concludes with the granular atmospheres of Busy Line (B2). Just like the album, this EP will also be enriched with two bonus tracks in digital version: the sharp electro of Choices (DGTL1) and the lo-fi house of Drumatic (DGTL2).

EXTRA META LP and EXTRA META EP will be available from February 22nd and March 14th, 2024, respectively, on New Interplanetary Melodies' Bandcamp and in all the best record stores.

On the occasion of the launch of his album, "Altars", which kicks off the catalog of his newly founded record label, Black Music, we invited Deon Jamar to take part in our podcast series.

Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music was the initial inspiration.

His career began in 2015 as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase Bluecollar Gentleman.
Around the same time, working with Theo Parrish to promote the Music Gallery party series and eventually spending years behind the scenes at Sound Signature. That work would culminate in a co-curation role for the DJ-Kicks compilation, "Detroit Forward", on !K7 Records, where he enlisted artists that represent the progressive sounds of today. His own track, "North End Funk", was selected to join the mix, making his production credit debut.

With over a decade of experience in Detroit's music community, Deon has been seasoned by the many worlds within. Ranging from the city's hip-hop scene to the world of underground dance music, and even serving as resident DJ for De'Sean Jones' Urban Art Orchestra, all of these worlds inform the musical range in his sets.

Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/R&B, house, techno, & broken beat. His sets aim to employ elements from all these forms with culture in mind.

Aside from playing gigs, Deon also enjoys programming events of his own such as the Healin' Session party series and the art exhibit, concert, and party series, Black Music, from which the label.

Black Music was founded by Deon and Brian Oscar (Wrcklés). Inspired by the legacy of those before and the work of peers today, these events were made to honor the lineage while also demonstrating the golden cord that connects all of our music throughout genre and era.

Fusing these worlds together informs the DJ as well as the producer.

A radical objection to industry standards, leaning more into the energy and depth of sound.

Black Music, the label, will carry this same tradition.

His exploration of rhythm and texture is central to what he does and once more here he takes us on a winding journey through slow down techno and mind altering synths. There is a new age charm to the synths of 'Desert Sun' while the drums chug below. 'The Desert Track II' is a snaking techno sound with creepy sci-fi melodies and twitchy pads off in the distance and 'Ivan's Track' keeps it celestial with more otherworldly melodies and rugged mid tempo drums. Two further unhurried sounds make a great mix of airy melody and metallic drum forms.

DVRST Collective is back with another deep-rooted debut. This time features Guy From 1990, a DJ, producer, and key player inspired by the late 80s / early 90s house, acid and garage sounds. An iconic figure of the underground scene in Lisbon, who heavily contributed through the mythical ELA & House Mouse events, and also Oxigénio and SBSR FM radio shows.

"Deep In Marvila" brings both nostalgia and innovation. As the name suggests, Marvila area is where the parties took place, under the esteemed underground movement ELA (East Lisbon Afters) of which Miguel, aka Guy From 1990, is part.

All this sense of belonging and effusive feeling inspired Miguel to craft the classic house roots of "Feel It", the depth and groove of "Deep In Marvila", and the instant acid-connection of two days in the studio with Larry Quest on "Been Appart".
