For the next installment of our podcast series, we are more than pleased to welcome DJ Aakmael, who delivers on a one-hour mix filled of raw and deep house of the purist variety as per usual.

DJ Aakmael (aka Greg Stewart) is definitely not an ordinary deep house DJ/producer. The Richmond (VA) based artist is an absolute legend and storied DJ/producer who has got started behind the decks at the tender age of 16 doing parties, school jams, weddings, house parties, etc., playing everything from hip hop to r'n'b, house, classical, jazz, reggae and opera, and has been releasing records since the early 2000's (when all of the DJ magazines, radio and A-list DJs only paid attention to progressive, big-room, tribal house...), devoting his life to producing and curating some of the best house music the world has to offer and keeping the deep, soulful and raw house sound pure.

Whether it be educating the ears of countless listeners throughout his 20 years stint on WDCE 90.1 FM or representing the sound of Virginia on international labels, the American musician has done his part in keeping the fire of house music alive in the States.

Roughly 15 years into his craft and responsible for releasing heater and heater over the last decade for respected dance labels such as Second Hand Records, Nite Grooves, People of Heart, Uzuri, Scissor and Thread, Church, Freerange Records, Axe On Wax, Release Sustain, Kolour LTD, Hizou, Monologues Records, Dogmatik Records, Flumo/ANMA, as well as his own imprint UnXpozd Entertainment, DJ Aakmael is slowly, steadily making his mark on the lexicon of house and it seems like he is somehow only getting started and a bright future awaits him.

Aak has graced the dance floors of About Blank (Berlin), Fáklya Klub (Budapest), Good Room (NY), Bossa Nova Civic Club (NY), Output (NY), TBA (NY), MotorCity Wine (Detroit) and many more, and played alongside Frances Harris, DJ Spinna, DJ Sprinkles, Patrice Scott and Kai Alcé, just to name a few.

Adeen Records presents the next installment in the series of 2021 releases, delivering an expanded set of remixes of two infamous tracks by Detroit house legend Alton Miller featuring Rydm Sectors, Nico Lahs, & KETAMA.

On the main side we find two brand new versions of "When The Morning Comes", possibly one of the best soulful house tracks featuring the Detroit soul of Amp Fiddler, first dropped back in 2010 on UK’s Superb Entertainment.
The first one is courtesy of the duo Rydm Sectors, house producers’ duo composed by Nicola Loporchio and Michele Lamacchia, who has been dropping some strong records across the last four years via Cosmic Rhythm, Gerd’s 4lux and Brooklyn’s LPH; while the second version is courtesy of Adeen Records’ affiliated Nico Lahs.

The flip side, instead, is opened by a new Nico Lahs’ version of "Ever Wonder", first dropped back in 2010 on Mixed Signals Music, followed by a second version by KETAMA from Cosmic Rhythm’s fame, which we have the pleasure of premiering today.

Hot on the heels of his doom-electro release on CYBERDOME, Italian producer D3070 readies his Lobster Theremin debut with five lairy cuts of end-of-the-world techno and electro.

"Orbital" is a simple, no frills track; uncompromising in-your-face energy meets melting acidic basslines on a 4x4 rhythm, before the noise breaks on "Space Invader" and a mutated electro-step emerges out from a dark alleyway covered in slime.

Dubstep/footwork blends increase the velocity on "You Got Me"; new territory for the emerging producer and one that we can’t wait to see him explore more - before we come crashing back into the horror with a cut of downright frightening sound design on "Darkness", it's dusty lo-fi rhythm marching on fourth and into the fiery gates.

"Artemis" provides room to breathe as we awaken from our nightmare, getting our head above water before floating towards a kaleidoscope of tangled emotion.

Will Buck teams up with Tilman to bring you some raw and 90's styled house banger with a remix from Nico Lahs.

Opening the release is "Closer (Pleasant Powermix)", a driving number with pulsating synth tones and deep Rhodes stabs. Nico Lahs "U Fit Mix" feels instantly familiar, if not almost its closely related deeper, distant cousin. Many will recognize its meditative musings, but here it's been re-contextualized into some true deep house.

"Summed Up Taken Away" opens the B side with a DJ-ready club killer! Classic chords, tough basslines, hype sax riffs and swangin' drums.  Rounding out the release, "A Taste Of Honey" is an effervescent, bouncy banger that perfectly encapsulate their artistic vision.

The established heavy hitting outfit, Nicepeople, kick things off for 2022 in true style. Dropping early next year is their latest slice of house heaven, the package comes in the shape of three originals from Gourment De Funk, and a nostalgic "Chicago Boogie'' trip with the legendary Roy Davis Jr. Sounds good already, right?

Title track "A Love Supreme" initiates proceedings on the A side, slick percussion teases you into a journey of funk bliss, warm and infectious bass taking you on a cruise, with feel good strings all working in sweet harmony to make this a must have record. On a more driven tip is "The Way You Move" another animated groove experience, and boasts some smooth sax action for the fans amongst us.

Roy Davis Jr’s "Chicago Boogie" remix of "The Way You Move" is an upbeat number for the peak time dance floors out there. The irresistible bass totally takes over your movements, you can not help but to move to a track like this, the veteran producer certainly not letting us down with this one, fitting the ethos of the label, and yet crammed with the signature sound we have all come to adore from Roy over the years. Closing off the EP is the "Never Lost (GDF Morning Dub)". Seductive deep house for the early morning dancers. One for the dreamers.

DJ Different dons his Terra Form alias as he begins his journey in "Entering The Void" on CYBERDOME; exploring phat electro bass-lines and party-starting ghettotech energy with its crosshairs fixated firmly on the club environment.

Born and raised in the culturally rich city of Malmö, the Swedish producer has previously released on London based label Deeply Cultured, Distant Hawaii, Mood Of Era, 1Ø PILLS MATE and Traxx Underground, spanning atmospheric techno, ethereal breakbeat and chunky electro.

"Ultrasonic" is an ear-wriggling cut of stripped-back psychedelia. As David Holmes would say, "all the best electronic music tracks are made up of only a few components". Here, typical electro synth stabs, robotic vocal sampling and sparse precision allows the track room to breathe, whilst maintaining a deep and funk-driven groove.

"Ghettotech" sounds how you would expect it to; pounding kicks, frantic atmospherics and lairy screw-face hype combine on a certified fire-starter, before "Exiting The Void" introduces itself on a footwork vibe that evolves into a sequence of interstellar-dungeon dub-electro.

"The Rise of the Slavs" takes its inspiration from the diverse group of tribes who lived in Central and Eastern Europe in the 6th to 10th centuries, establishing the foundations for the Slavic nations; it's marching rhythm beaming historical context into 21st Century dance music.

Flexing spaced out electro cuts, Canadian duo Minor Sine Project are back with their 5 track EP "Stitch in Time". "Stretched Thin" displays MSP's penchant for creating sonic blends of modern breakbeat and 4x4 rhythms. Ever since he could remember, Jon Dixon has had a passion for music. He began playing by ear at the age of four and has always enjoyed challenging himself by learning music in this manner. At the age of 15 he began reading and studying classical piano while enrolled at The High School For Fine and Performing Arts where he also studied jazz. Upon graduating he began performing with the Detroit Symphony Civic Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Detroit's own Godfather of jazz, the late Marcus Belgrave. While performing locally with this ensemble, he also attended Wayne State University where he studied jazz piano under Matt Michaels. As time went on, word of mouth began to spread about Dixon and his talents. While in college he accompanied The Mosaic Youth Theater of Detroit as an accompanist/bandleader for their productions and concerts as well as performing all over the city and state. Jon currently teaches multiple group piano classes at the Michigan State University Community Music School in Midtown Detroit. He has had the chance to also play for/with Chick Corea, Jeff Hamilton, Robert Hurst, Delfayo Marsalis, John Clayton, The Count Basie Orchestra, Marcus Belgrave, The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Leon Ware, Eric Roberson, Dwele, Amp Fiddler and more over the past decade. Jon has had the opportunity to not only lead the Underground Resistance live acts Galaxy 2 Galaxy and Timeline, but has also performed with Interstellar Fugitives, Amp Fiddler, Jeff Mills, Mike Banks, Derrick May, Francesco Tristano, Carl Craig, Goldie and more. Dixon is one of the city's most sought-after musicians for every genre ranging from jazz to techno. He believes that the more versatile and open minded you are at your craft, the further it will take you. In 2015 he started an independent label, 4EVR 4WRD (Forever Forward) to focus on making electronic music fused with elements of jazz, hip-hop and other styles of music. "I feel that it is important for me as a musician to not only continue the rich culture and history of both jazz and electronic music but to also use my knowledge, theory and experience to combine the two and take both genres to the next level!"

September 9th Jon presents us a new label's instalment, "Vocal Sessions Vol.1". His latest EP is composed of two original deep house cuts featuring two of Detroit's finest vocalists, L'Renee and Kenny Watson, who bring their unique voices to Jon's masterful production, as well as an incredible remix by Jimpster and an edit by Jon under his MinorInvention alias.  Released on vinyl as well as digital, the digital version will include the Brixton remix as a bonus track. Expect nothing but the Detroit jazzy house style he's known for. This is hi-tech jazz at its finest!

Volume two in the series naturally contains some choice, remastered gems, not least the warming, sax-sporting deep house bounce of 2001 classic "Wild Kingdom", which is also presented in two new versions from Nico Lahs: the deeper, slower and more emotive "2022 Vision", and the ultra-deep, subtly jazz-funk-flecked "U Fit" Mix, which bobs along at a pleasingly head-nodding tempo. Elsewhere, there's another chance to savour 1999's smooth, disco-tinged "The Blow" and the sweaty, bumpy brilliant of 1998's "Smoke", an excitement-packed loop jam.

Originally hailing from Australia, Morgan's beginnings saw her experiment with hip hop, soul and disco. However, Morgan found her true calling in electronic and house music, listing in 2017 in Mixmag's 20 Artists rising from the underground and we definitely agree.
Nowadays she's a NYC based fresh talent, artist, producer and DJ known for releases on labels such as Budare, Sunday Money Music, Guy From Downstairs' GFD,  Loco Dice's Desolat imprint and for her collaborations with Guti on The Martinez Brothers' Cuttin' Headz. The latter, including a Dan Ghenacia and Chris Carrier remix, are expertly crafted tunes that vary from dancefloor focused tracks to more soulful and downtempo productions.

Beyond that, she's also one of the driving forces behind the infamous Golden Record NYC party series.

From the material she's supplied thus far, it's clear she has plenty of versatility to share.

Forbidden Dance Records sure does know how to signup the big boys with previous EPs from Patrice Scott and Dego making a fine impression. Next up is another house don, this time from Chicago: Specter can really go wild with his rhythms and raw textures as shown on EPs for Theo Parrish's label, but here he starts off with something soulful, dusty round the edges and deep. 'Putazo' then finds him embracing the occult with edgy and glassy synth lines zipping about more turbulent groves. 'Run The Course' is a grinding and mechanical groove of the sort he does so well, then 'Humble Pie' is all fizzing lo-fi synths and scuzzy drums patterns.

Bassline rhythms, soul drenched house fusion cuts and quality ugly tones. Tip!

Like a phoenix from the ashes, or Ukrainian culture after centuries of demolition, the Kyiv based label Noneside Records is experiencing its revival and rebirth. After all, «Nothing will stop an idea whose time has come» - these words of chief Stepan Bandera make it clear to everyone: if you really burn with sincere emotion for your dream - no difficulties will stop you on the way to its realization.

Five unique tracks from Slava Los, Yevhenii Loi, Lostlojic, Luschn and aqua. - it's a tech house with elements of trance with soul and passion from musicians who write music despite the war. Visualization of the whole action on the record is the picture «The hug» by the Lviv artist Oles Derega.

Slava Los makes his debut on vinyl with the beautiful track «Snus» - old school trance in the best traditions. The author now defends the borders in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so he decided to fulfill his old dream about the vinyl. Yevgeny Loi is also currently in the military, but this did not prevent him from making a new version of «Bounce» - a trance for a slow, erotic dance mood. Lostlojic, who is also the art director of the project, recalls the important message of «Send Me F16» in the uncompromising track of the same name, or rather in its VIP version created especially for the release. Known to vinyl collectors for releases on Deeptrax and Infinite Pleasure. Luschn, a Kyiv legend and mega productive musician, known to tech house maniacs for his releases on Vector.Kyiv and Noneside, invites you to have fun and crazy dances with friends to his rehearsed «Ostinato Transdanz». Newbie aqua. has a unique recognizable style, where the rhythm is constantly changing in each track, nostalgic for the favorite place of childhood - near the Hydroelectric Station in Zaporizhzhia, crazy beats and steppe motifs in the track «H.E.S.».

Nothing will stop an idea

The 2024 of New Interplanetary Melodies begins with a new album and an EP signed by ABYSSY, the historical producer from Bologna who returns to Simona Faraone’s label after a few years since the release of his previous works, Magnetic Archive (NIM001, 2016) under his alias Soulomon, and Two Scorpions EP (NIM002, 2017) under the name ABYSSY, which marked NIM's adventure in the world of contemporary Italian independent record labels.
ABYSSY is the musical project that combines the Italian producer's previous experiences with his entire world of musical influences: from the proto-techno of The Electrifying Mojo to the heart of Detroit techno and Chicago house, from the minimalism of Philip Glass to the sound of the Berlin school of the '70s, embracing electro, the heavy use of synthesizers from the minimal wave, and the science-fiction lesson of Kraftwerk. All of this encompasses the territories of '70s and '80s NY black music, drawing from funk, disco, boogie, seminal hip-hop, and breaks. It's a flow of eclecticism and hybrid energies that we also find in his latest works, EXTRA META LP + EXTRA META EP, an album and an EP that are intrinsically connected to each other and have multiple shades.

The album starts with the ecstatic Samba Temperado (A1), which takes us back to the glory days of German Kraut while Mars Trax (A2), Acid Rio (A3), and Quantuum (A4) catapult us into the depths of refined and twisted Detroit techno.

The B side opens with the beautiful Vectrex (B1), a track with a New York's disco-not-disco flavour, followed by the electric house music of Mixed Feeling (B2), a true gem for enthusiasts of more outsider sounds. With Italodoppler (B3), the arrangements become decidedly more '80s and sugary but have a sure grip on the most demanding dancefloors. We could consider ourselves satisfied, but ABYSSY and NIM also offer us two bonus tracks (only in digital format) that further enrich the spectrum of sounds presented in EXTRA META LP: the swirling ambient of Supernova (DGTL1) and the carefree proto-house extravaganza of Ordnateur Numerique (DGTL2).

The journey with ABYSSY's music continues with EXTRA META EP, a natural continuation of the album, starting with the over 14-minute crescendo of C3C6 (A1), a true intergalactic techno journey. Lower Milky Way (B1) nods towards the most elegant Italo disco sounds, and the EP concludes with the granular atmospheres of Busy Line (B2). Just like the album, this EP will also be enriched with two bonus tracks in digital version: the sharp electro of Choices (DGTL1) and the lo-fi house of Drumatic (DGTL2).

EXTRA META LP and EXTRA META EP will be available from February 22nd and March 14th, 2024, respectively, on New Interplanetary Melodies' Bandcamp and in all the best record stores.

Fresh off their ethereal harmony-driven release on Sengiley Wax at the end of 2023, Minor Sine Project are back with their first official LP, "Fata Morgana". The album touches on an array of genres, blending elements of acid, breaks and minimal, all held closely under a cloak of lush harmony. "Fata Morgana" presents the boundaries of genre as a mirage, digging deeper into the fundamental aspects of true groove, coalescing to form music that’s equally designed for the club and beyond.

Drone Time Podcast #036 | Deon Jamar

On the occasion of the launch of his album, "Altars", which kicks off the catalog of his newly founded record label, Black Music, we invited Deon Jamar to take part in our podcast series.

Deon is a Detroit native whose roots stem from the crates of family. Growing up hearing many different styles of music was the initial inspiration.

His career began in 2015 as resident DJ & organizer for the monthly hip-hop showcase Bluecollar Gentleman.
Around the same time, working with Theo Parrish to promote the Music Gallery party series and eventually spending years behind the scenes at Sound Signature. That work would culminate in a co-curation role for the DJ-Kicks compilation, "Detroit Forward", on !K7 Records, where he enlisted artists that represent the progressive sounds of today. His own track, "North End Funk", was selected to join the mix, making his production credit debut.

With over a decade of experience in Detroit's music community, Deon has been seasoned by the many worlds within. Ranging from the city's hip-hop scene to the world of underground dance music, and even serving as resident DJ for De'Sean Jones' Urban Art Orchestra, all of these worlds inform the musical range in his sets.

Inspired by everything from jazz, funk, & soul, to more modern black dance music forms like hip-hop/R&B, house, techno, & broken beat. His sets aim to employ elements from all these forms with culture in mind.

Aside from playing gigs, Deon also enjoys programming events of his own such as the Healin' Session party series and the art exhibit, concert, and party series, Black Music, from which the label.

Black Music was founded by Deon and Brian Oscar (Wrcklés). Inspired by the legacy of those before and the work of peers today, these events were made to honor the lineage while also demonstrating the golden cord that connects all of our music throughout genre and era.

Fusing these worlds together informs the DJ as well as the producer.

A radical objection to industry standards, leaning more into the energy and depth of sound.

Black Music, the label, will carry this same tradition.

Anatolian Weapons has always brought intriguing influence to techno. His exploration of rhythm and texture is central to what he does and once more here he takes us on a winding journey through slow down techno and mind altering synths. There is a new age charm to the synths of 'Desert Sun' while the drums chug below. 'The Desert Track II' is a snaking techno sound with creepy sci-fi melodies and twitchy pads off in the distance and 'Ivan's Track' keeps it celestial with more otherworldly melodies and rugged mid tempo drums. Two further unhurried sounds make a great mix of airy melody and metallic drum forms.

DVRST Collective is back with another deep-rooted debut. This time features Guy From 1990, a DJ, producer, and key player inspired by the late 80s / early 90s house, acid and garage sounds. An iconic figure of the underground scene in Lisbon, who heavily contributed through the mythical ELA & House Mouse events, and also Oxigénio and SBSR FM radio shows.

"Deep In Marvila" brings both nostalgia and innovation. As the name suggests, Marvila area is where the parties took place, under the esteemed underground movement ELA (East Lisbon Afters) of which Miguel, aka Guy From 1990, is part.

All this sense of belonging and effusive feeling inspired Miguel to craft the classic house roots of "Feel It", the depth and groove of "Deep In Marvila", and the instant acid-connection of two days in the studio with Larry Quest on "Been Appart".

A true footwork with some of the best house-core elements you can groove with!
