This year marks a decade of collaboration between Nottingham’s Chris Sylvester aka Inxec and LA’s trio – and Culprit’s bosses - Droog. The fruitful creative relationship kicked off back in 2010, at the infamous afterhours den & studio space The Bunker, nestled at the foot of Hollywood Hills. The very first session produced much of what still remains this collaboration’s signature release – the “Westbound” EP released on Crosstown Rebels. Stops on Get Physical, Last Night on Earth, Supernature, My Favorite Robot, No. 19 and others followed as the quartet convened and reconvened for intense exchange of ideas, usually in Los Angeles and always shoulder-to-shoulder.

Here arrives Inxec & Droog’s second release on Culprit, on the heels of last year’s “Din.” As per the established paradigm, it explores the emotive soundscapes of deeper strains of Techno and House. Minor key melodic hooks sit on top of deceptively simple but intricately detailed percussion, with warm electronic textures bubbling just under the surface. “Righteous” is the brighter of the two, led by an inviting Rhodes electric piano riff riding an upfront house kick. “Crenshaw” – named after the landmark boulevard traversing Los Angeles – finds the producers in a reflective mood, adding the subtle symphonic touch to the midtempo groove.

Culprit’s bosses Droog and one of the LA-based imprint’s core European artists, Edu Imbernon, follow up their 2015 collaboration with a new set of lush melodic house. Their first studio venture, “Spectral,” laid down the template for harmonically rich, emotionally charged dance music – one that artists explore in depth on “Lucent.”

Berlin’s Nico Stojan is a producer on form, with recent releases and remixes for Rebellion, Kindisch and Suara making an impact. Stojan takes “Gamut” into a deeper, gently percussive place, reminiscent of the finest moments in Acid Pauli and Nu’s work. The remix marks his first – and very welcomed – collaboration with Culprit.

Culprit bosses Droog return to the label as artists with another one of their regular collaborations, following the “Lucent” release with Edu Imbernon last September. This time up is the new music from the artistic pairing that has, in many ways, defined Droog’s production output. Their musical kinship with the Nottingham native Inxec has been cultivated across nearly 8 years and in spite of vast distances that separate them. Rare but creatively intense studio sessions over the years have yielded EPs for Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Last Night On Earth and Supernature, plus tracks and remixes for No. 19, My Favorite Robot and Noir.  With their mantle proven on some of the most admired labels around, the Inxec & Droog team has now come home in making its Culprit debut with “Din.”

Rounding out the release is another Culprit debut long in the making. LA’s own talented and tirelessly prolific Dance Spirit duo – known via many releases for Supernature, Superfreq, Rebellion and many others – step up with an epic nearly 10 minute journey, blending their patented crisp minimalist percussion with immaculately placed symphonic touches from the “Bodyless” original.

Now we get Inxec & Droog’s second release on Culprit, coming hot on the heels of last year's release "Din." The new single "Crenshaw" continues to explore the emotive soundscapes of the deeper strains of techno and house. 

The B-side title track "Crenshaw" is on offer as a premiere right here on Discobelle – the track is named after the landmark boulevard traversing Los Angeles – and on it, we find a sound that manages to incorporate a subtle symphonic touch to the grooved out and highly hypnotizing track.

Sprung from their DJ roots in late 90s/early ‘00s, Droog have taken on (nearly) all of the essential mantles: label heads – since 2009 their Culprit outfit has become a real force in the new “Deep” dance music movement; promoters of considerable experience and renown – their party series long a hometown institution, took on a global reach with events spanning Europe and the Americas; and producers – solo or with steady collaborator Inxec, they have infiltrated some of the top dance music labels like Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical, Supernature, Last Night on Earth, Noir and Akbal.  

Droog has now emerged as a touring DJ unit with a suitcase-full of highlights, from 4 appearances at the beloved Fabric in London, the twin Berlin clubbing institutions: Watergate and Renate, and Paris’ legendary Rex to memorable shows in Peru, Australia, Russia, Portugal, Ecuador and beyond.
