DROP — THE ELECTRIC HOUR

“I’m awake again, I think. The voices seem to be gone, so that’s a good sign. And by ‘gone’ I mean gone for now. God knows how they like to pop up whenever I’m awake again. And by ‘awake again’ I mean… actually I don’t know what I mean, to be honest. It’s all turning into an endless swirl in my mind. A continuous churn of my brain matter with a smatter of dreams and a dash of vague memories from a distant past. Melting away through the cavities of my skull. At least the voices are ‘gone’. Those torment me much worse than the swirl. With the swirl, I could sit back and float through my existence. Drift through the pain. But with the voices, it feels like I’m fighting to stand up and falling in all directions at the same time. It wasn’t always like this. Surely there was in a time in my life, either this one or the ones before, where I wasn’t plagued by such severe disassociation. Constantly losing my grip on the fabric of reality. Or was it always like this? With the fabric folding and twisting over and over on itself, endlessly. And I never had a grip of it in the first place.”

“I had to leave. That was the right thing to do, wasn’t it? I mean, I tried to stay as long as I could. To embrace it all. But something was always off. It felt like I was trying to make it make sense, you know what I mean? And I just couldn’t help feeling like it was slowly eating at me from the inside. This over-rationalization that was rotting me away, bit by bit, until I became this empty shell. So I left. Some say I gave up on the world, but I don’t see it that way. I say I gave this world up. I didn’t need it anymore. To provide for me, or validate me, or even love me. None of that. I decided that I’ll do those things for myself and others. I mean, it’s lot harder this way but I knew it could be done. Some say I stopped believing in the world. I don’t see it that way. I stopped believing it. Period. I’ve been sold everything under the moon and I've become exhausted from it. I didn’t want to buy anything anymore. So I took this new path. Under some new stars and under a new moon. A path less travelled. And because of that, a path as, if not more, difficult than the last. But at least it seems to makes sense, you know what I mean? At least I don’t feel like an empty shell anymore. I’m like a full blown lobster now.”

DROP — UNDER A NEW MOON

“Lately, I’ve been finding everything very noisy. Everything seemingly invading my personal space at all times. So many images and videos and sounds and smells and products and people and more products and more people. All vying for my attention. I guess it could be that I’m getting older and all of these things don’t mean as much to me anymore so in turn, they’ve become bothersome. Everything feels sped up as well… Too many images and videos and sounds and smells and products flying at me as quickly as the days and months and years fly past me. I guess it could be that I’m getting older and the things and the times are outpacing me with a spirit I once had. Maybe. But I don’t think that’s it… For as grand and progressive and magnificent and innovative all of these things seem to be at the moment, they have this overarching feel of grey. Like grey static. A noisy dullness. At the same time, the thoughts in my mind seem to burn bright and violently like hot neon. I’m not sure if they’re good thoughts. I just know that they’re definitely violent. Maddening, in a way. Thoughts of what the things could be instead of what they are now. Idealism turned to frantic frustration.”

DROP — WHY ARE WE THE WAY THAT WE ARE

"They say that history repeats itself but this time feels different. It feels like we're standing at the precipice of something completely foreign. Somewhere that we can't come back from. Maybe, every so often, it always feels like this. Some kind of pivotal moment that will either make or break us. Maybe it's not that black or white. Maybe if it doesn't make us, it won't break us completely. Just break us a little bit more. And if it doesn't break us any more, maybe it'll make us a little bit more of something else. And whatever the end result may be, we won't see it until we're gone. But either way, I guess it's worth taking the leap. We'll either fly or fall. And if we fall, it won't make a difference to me. I've already fallen. I've been falling for so long, it just feel like I'm floating now."
