There is no substitute for experience, and we are all the product of our influences. Damon Jee is the embodiment of that statement. Over the last 20 years, he has carved a career in a very unassuming way, unintentionally writing an exciting new chapter for the global electronic music scene. He is the journeyman who managed to shine brighter by staying true to himself, a musical alchemist experimenting with different sounds to create a deadly new potion. Today, the producer is considered the leading exponent of a fresh and exciting new scene many are calling Dark Disco. 

Getting his start in the studio alongside fellow Frenchman Olivier Giacomotto, the duo became leading players on the then-booming electro house scene with an impressive run of productions on labels like Definitive and CR2. As he started producing more solo works, Jee naturally veered towards his rebellious heritage growing up on nineties rock and industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Pixies, Nirvana and more. The organic appeal of live rock seeped into his productions: distorted guitars gliding atop fat, off-beat and two-fingered picked bass, all framed within a foundation of percussion and drums that carries Damon Jee’s perfectly engineered and distinct sound. The music released under his NOZZ moniker is soaked in this unique and heavy-duty sound: powerful productions which double up as heat-seeking missiles aimed straight at the dancefloor’s heart.

It was his remix of Pardon Moi’s ‘Power to the People’ that really saw a rise in the likeable Frenchman’s profile. It has it all: trance melodies and cosmic chords, a confidant rock stomp coiled with electronic euphoria, and robotic vocals gleefully riding a wave of energetic drums. It received support from the world’s best tastemakers including Solomun, Job Jobse and HAAi, introducing Damon Jee to a brand new audience. 

Today his singular sound can be heard on the underground’s most sought-after labels including Roam, Hafendisko, Suara and Sincopat to name a few. Huge support came in the form of Jennifer Cardini who signed his massive three-track Chamaniac EP to her Correspondant Records. The EP received support from various corners of the electronic music sphere with a diverse group of DJs from Andrew Weatherall to Dixon to Joris Voorn all getting around it.

The natural evolution of Damon Jee leads to the recent launch of his label, Dust & Blood. The new imprint will explore Damon Jee’s distinctive sound even further. 

Today Damon Jee is slotting perfectly into his role as a bona fide headliner. Years of experience ensure each set is delivered with confidant ease and professionalism that sets him apart. 1. Funniest experience at Aether club:

-Last year we had Marcus Worgull at Sobekin series and the lights were not working. I didn't know him - lookin a serious guy - and was worried how this gonna turn out. He arrived and said; no probs, shut everything down and I play in total darkness. Mastervibes.

 2. Who are you? What do you do?

-Hello, I'm Sobek. I make your face melting down when the e starts to hit hard.

 3. Your podcast in one word?

-Essential. 

4. Define the job of a dj:

-Connect and build the energy flow.

5. Funniest compliment you ever got:

-At AETHER I got cash as a tip several times in the morning. Funny or not, each time I had to take it at the end.

6. Whats your biggest inspiration?

-New music and new adventures.

7. How do you pick track names?

Really good question. Sometimes I reflect on the track closely, other times want to express something else through that part. Nowadays I'm checking the top 10 charts and try to give similar names. Maybe is a maybe,

8. 3 worlds to describe yourself:

-more German than a German (srry was 5)

9. Favorite BPM:

100-125

10. 3 most important skills of a producer?

-Willingness to learn and change. Ability to let it go.

11. Best advice for newcomers:

-Pay yourself in. Its much more easier.

12. What would you change in the industry?

-I wouldn't change anything. That's how it is, the rest is complaint kulture.

13. B2B of your dream?

-The basis for a good b2b is about chemistry and the ability to raise the vibe higher and higher. I'm quite picky on that topic and actually not dreaming about others. 

14. If you would be a sound which would it be:

-The sound of silencio.

15. One secret tip for djs:

-Look up to the crowd sometimes. It's worth the effort.

Musumeci is a musical project by Mauro Di Martino, sicilian DJ and producer since late 80s. After two decades of releasing music under several aliases, Mauro merged into Musumeci’s alter ego in 2009.
