In September 2024, Douglas Greed put together a folder with lots of musical pieces. When I played at the Watergate for the very last time, I listened to everything in the hotel. "Everything is stupid, I wanna go home!" stuck with me. I listened to it in silence and decided that I probably had to do the first Tulpa Ovi, which definitely had nothing to do with myself. So Tulpa Ovi is growing,non? Then I asked my dear John Tejada if he could do a remix, and BOOM, there's a really cool John Tejada remix on top. 2025 is on fire already.

Listening to "Cha Cha" takes me back to 2015, when a bright-eyed version of myself first arrived in Los Angeles to, as I saw it, take over the world. I was put in a room with Anabel to write some songs at the Interscope studios and I could not have been more excited about the opportunity and everything I imagined the future to hold.

Life has turned out very differently in more ways than I can imagine and while I'm grateful for it all, it's beautifully melancholic to connect with that past version of myself through this song and grieve that specific flavour of youth I am no longer in possession of.

P.S. You may have noticed this is the 'velvet' version - an alternative that for various reasons got released instead of the original. Who knows? One day you may actually hear the original... It's quite something 🪄

While some guys will tell you now it’s all computers, at Turbo we know in our hearts that everything in life can be understood as a funhouse mirror. As studious Turbo watchers have no doubt clocked*, we have paid access to the halls of European power, where you get to make backroom deals with Emmanuel Macron and British Seinfeld as Opus’ “Live is Life” blares over a gigantic bluetooth speaker. And, yeah, you’ll probably run into the most celebrated European producers of our time. Pional, Axel Boman, Mano Le Tough, and Roman Flügel — these are the kinds of names you only see once you’ve reached the highest levels of success, be it in dance music production or purchasing the hottest tickets in town on your favorite mobile device. We called each on these titans to anoint “MZ” into the modern pantheon of club anthems, and you can bet your last eurobond that they delivered. But we also wanted some new blood, so we turned to rising Lithuanian superstar DJ JM. JM is now a deep part of the Turbo family, and he’s made the theoretical space between bad-boy cousin and beloved nephew fully his own with what we hope Rolling Stone Magazine will call “a distinctively modern edge."

The track reminds me of starting my day. It also reminds me of Tomorrowland. So I named it Zorya as a mix of both.

The World, as we know it, has changed. A routine rethought has allowed time to create. With borders closed and friends isolated from one another, our ‘40 Days In Quarantine’ series has invited artists to connect us all together once more via the power of music, as we live out this surreal and dystopian period. 

Borders Of Light’s boss, Toto Chiavetta, delivers our first installment - three tracks characterizing and capturing the varying emotions felt whilst confined by himself in Italy. It touches against the chaotic, the calm and the positive - emotions we have all been battling with over the past weeks. It shows the testament of the human mind and the strength and emotions we have all been experiencing. 

Suheir Hammad - What I Will (Toto Chiavetta Liaisons Dangereuses - 326 Michigan Ave Edition): A nostalgic battlecry

Polishing off the release is a penned tribute to two of Toto’s inspirations - Ron Hardy and Liaisons Dangereuses. Hardy was one of the purveyors of house music in Chicago in the 80s, and as a resident at The Music Box (address 326 Michigan Avenue) in the city, he would often play music from the equally innovative and unconventional German band. 

‘What I Will’ combines elements regularly expressed by both artists with a poem spoken by Suheir Hammad placed on top. The words are a feisty piece of art - a battlecry of rebelling against what’s considered the societal norm of thinking. In the background, bright harmonic chords beam through to form the uplifting groove, as raw hi-hats daze in for a classic disco structure: an element quintessential to and continually showcased in early house music. Coming to its peak, the line ‘I will dance and resist’ are looped repeatedly - highlighting a strengthed state of mind. Nearing the end, industrial-sounding elements inspired by Liaisons Dangereuses take their place for a punchier approach.

Seamlessly blending together a sense of tact with soulful sentimentality, driven by the powerful words of Hammad, ‘What I Will’ is a vigorous reminder of our own fighting spirit, and that we are stronger than we know right now.
