Flight Club №46 — Alma Linda

The trees are swaying calmly in this balmy breeze.

The heat today was challenging, but as our burning star begins to hide for the night, temperatures return to a milder range. Fireflies start to swarm around you and cicadas are chirping in the distance. Feels good to be out of the city for once.

The asphalt jungle chased you away with its shimmering streets and emetic green bins and you’ve found refuge in the lush and lazy countryside. Among trees and meadows you wind down from the stress that comes with a modern life.

But hey! 
One of those birch trees doesn’t quite fit with the rest. 
And with a closer look you realise: 
It’s DJ BIRCH, swaying with the rest of the white barked giants, creaking as she moves from side to side. You decide to approach her and as you get within a few feet, the creaking turns into a rhythm that makes you sway as well.

And so you all sway through the night until the big red burning star shows herself again behind a hill.

Flight Club №50 — DJ BIRCH

Little by little, the bird builds its nest.

Some of them meticulously collect twigs, vines and whatnot to build their little cups in the tree forks. Others are as lazy as scraping a little depression into the ground to lay their eggs. Then there are those chirpers that excavate whole tunnels into walls of earth and those that do it in the trees. 

The eccentric ones like to build floating homes on the water. And there also are feathered freaks that weave their entire home out of small blades of grass, or even more insane: from a single leaf. They all are talented and creative builders (except maybe for those lazy scrapers…), patching all sorts of found materials together to make a home. 

Joining their ranks now is Leipzig based selector extraordinaire Anna Malysz, patching together all sorts of heartfelt tunes into a whopping two hour mixtape. With a diverse range from Pop to Underground she can house quite a lot of hungry listeners. So go on eggheads, let momma Anna feed you those delicious waves.

Flight Club №51 — Anna Malysz

Heaven is cloudy, streets are muddy, windows are steamy.

Layers upon layers upon layers seem to be the only way to block out the damp cold.
And with multiple pairs of socks you can’t even feel the ground below your feet anymore.
Like a mug inside bubble wrap you are traveling through the twilight. 

There are days on which the darkness outside feels like an exact mirror of the gloom inside.
The few hours of daylight aren’t enough to charge your batteries, let alone warm you up.
What you need on those days is a hot cup of tea and a pair of speakers delivering premium sound waves. Or headphones for that matter. The choice is yours.

The waves are brought to you by Marabou from the infamous Berlin Schrott Rec. gang.
A fine selection of dream-like synthesizer lines paired with driving beats that would even keep a  lake from freezing up. Solid tunes for wonky feet.

Anbei noch seine Stellungnahme zu unseren Fragen:

• Was macht deiner Meinung nach eine gute Afterhour aus?

Eine gute Afterhour ist für mich, wenn die Menschen, die schnelle Befriedigung brauchten, gegangen sind; wenn verbleibende Zombies mit warmen Frequenzen vertrieben werden wie Vampire vom Sonnenlicht; wenn die Semi-Überzeugten ins Bett gefunden haben und nur noch über ist, wer einfach nicht gehen will und weiß, dass die Belohnung nach hinten raus funkelt; wenn mögliche Erwartungen an die endende Nacht sich in Luft aufgelöst haben und einen ausgelassenen Menschenhaufen zurücklassen, bestehend aus den freundlichsten Gesichtern die sich vielleicht vorher noch nicht begegnet sind, aber doch zutiefst vertraut sind - harmonierend, wie man es mit niemandem für möglich gehalten hätte - auf einer Welle schwingend und zelebrierend, als würde der inzwischen zeitlose Moment einfach nie enden.

• Welche Gedanken magst du uns zu deinem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?

Ich entdecke aktuell verschiedene Genres neu, welche ich in Zukunft weiter erforschen und in meine Sets mit einbringen will - ob noch mehr Deep House, Chicago House, Italo / Bretter Disko oder auch Tech-House. Allerdings, nach diesem Jahr, in dem nach meinem Eindruck Tech-House und (Trash-) Remixes überhand genommen haben - geprägt von einer kompromisslosen Vorwärtskultur mit einer ordentlichen Prise Trash und Spotify Recommendations - fühle ich mich mit diesem Afterhour Sounds Cast eher in Momente und Stimmungen zurück, wie sie für mich am schönsten waren, auch wenn sie teilweise noch aus einer Zeit vor COVID stammen.

• Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? Was ist dein musikalischer Hintergrund?

Trotz einer umfassenden musikalischen Ausbildung in jungen Jahren, habe ich erst vor kurzem begonnen, mich aktiv durch Musik auszudrücken. Beeinflusst von Techno/House der 00er Jahre in Hamburg, einer Dubstep/Drum'n'Bass-getriebenen Subkultur in Edinburgh und einer Glitch/Trap/Deep-House-gefärbten Festivalszene in Kalifornien, zeigen meine musikalischen Reisen eine Wertschätzung für verschiedene Genres - mit neueren Inspirationen aus der sich wunderbar entwickelnden Downtempo-Techno und Keta-Pop-Szene in Deutschland.

his is not a friendly reminder to drink more water (even though you really should), this is a sonic journey into a time that smells like a camp fire, feels like denim and instead of cowbells you can hear the bell bottoms slurp.

Since it’s already on the table, why don’t you have a slurp from that nice cold water. Don’t worry, the only acid in there is from a juicy slice of lemon and you’ll only need to hit the play button to tune in. 

DJ Trinkwasser is doing his job as a musical archivist very well and just like from a well he unearthes the finest tunes from an era where the computers were big and the hair was long.
