Chillwave never died. It just made some new friends. 

"Track Your Mind" the first track on the Yeehai EP, from the laconic Jack Chosef, who's provided drums for Sean Nicholas Savage's live shows, opens with a manipulated vocal sample that could intro an experimental club track à la Night Slugs or a towering Kanyeeseque hip-hop construction. Instead, in drops the half-tempo bass kicks and portentous synths favored by meticulous 80s revivalists, the sorts that dream of a neon video-game Miami (Chosef says Yeehai is "inspired by girls and cars") or are aficionados of Italian giallo soundtracks and John Carpenter's self-penned scores. But "Track Your Mind" could also be the sound of, for example, Pye Corner Audio's alternate history technological fantasies. 

The song is all those things. And yet: it's distinctively Chillwave; it has the same air of nostalgia and naivety, a carefree spirit, dreamy and kind-hearted. While many producers would be tempted to accentuate the icy cool of the drums by focusing on dark en vogue textures, Chosef makes his choices at a tangent: the insistent, melancholy 'oohoos' of, you guessed it "Oohoo", the immaculate chimes of "Golden Princess". the echoing keys of "Cubing", and the daintily twinkling synths of the title track.

That's not to say that these guileless sonic choices mean Yeehai isn't original or sensuous. The heavy synth washes on the second half of "Golden Princess" are dreamy, but also deep, inviting, enveloping; the heaving switch mid-way through "Baby" nearly ripples through the listener's body. Chosef says the EP was recorded (with help from Touchy Mob) in the summer "in my bed under black clouds and a sprite wodka in my hand." That describes the process as well as the result: pensive, slighty tipsy, evoking sunshowers as much as summer"

Edge of the Wood

Emile Facey lives in Penge, South East London. ‘When writing this music I became very interested in the history of the area I live in, imagining what it had been like when the ancient Great North Wood was still standing and the now busy urban area was a tiny hamlet sitting at the edge of a vast forest. I read that Penge was first recorded under the name Penceat in an Anglo-Saxon deed dating from 957 and that many historians believe the name of the town is derived from the Celtic word Penceat, which means "edge of wood". The Porcupine Meadow and a toll gate were important landmarks in the area.’

First inspired by Kraftwerk and the Street Sounds hip-hop compilations in the early 1980s Emile was hooked on electro from an early age. In 1998 he started promoting electro events in London and connecting with other producers and DJs from the UK and abroad. This led to him building his first bedroom studio and, after a few years of learning, honing and recording, Emile’s Plant43 project saw it’s first vinyl release in 2006 on the much-missed Ai Records. Since then he’s released nearly 100 tracks on many highly respected labels including Frustrated Funk, CPU, Semantica, Shipwrec, AC Records, Bleep43 Recordings, Cultivated Electronics and Trust.

He is also a graphic designer, illustrator and co-founder of bleep43.com, which is dedicated to celebrating electronic music. Since 2002, Emile has played live alongside DJ Stingray, ERP/Convextion, Surgeon, DJ Overdose, Urban Tribe and many others.

Eudemonia

‘Edge of the Wood’ is the first release on new label Eudemonia. Emile explains, ‘In early 2017 label owner Sascha reached out to tell me about his dream, starting a record label which allowed the artists the freedom to express themselves musically and visually but also to give something back to society, with a proportion of profits going to Musicians Without Borders, an organisation using music to connect communities in war torn countries. I have really enjoyed collaborating with him over the last year and we have created an EP which features tracks and imagery which I hope meet our objectives. I have poured all of my emotion and energy into this project and am very proud to be the first artist to be released on Eudemonia.’

The port welcomed boats and ships from all over the world, a meeting place for people to share tales of their intrepid journeys. There was much hustle and bustle as the nomadic groups stepped on to solid ground and greeted one another. Joyous cries rang around the port, it had been months, years even since these travellers had seen one another. After a few days they would part ways and take their travels to a new corner of the world, but they would always return. This place was their home from home.



Moscow-based label ИДА are set to release the 10th record on their imprint, this time from Saint-Petersburg producer Bogdan who makes up one half of Soft Metal. The four original tracks display his love of breakbeat, acid and percussion, with signature remixes from Vilnius producer Miskotom and label heads Uninc & Kolomensky.

“The Orion Years” finally reissued in vinyl format to celebrate its 25th Anniversary // Hybride Sentimento invite Thomas P. Heckmann with one of his most prolific alias; AGE. An ode to 60’s German sci-fi TV series: “Raumpatrouille Orion". Deluxe Edition with new artwork + 2 exclusive tracks, remastered by artist himself, at TROPE studio (Mainz,Germany). Back in 1994, an emulsion time for club oriented electronic music and while biggest techno hits were produced, a bunch of musicians started to explore machines in a non-conventional way, giving another smell to the appreaciation of this new form of music and production: independant, synthetic & futuristic(in the way of announcing something modern; out of humanity). We can point out just a few labels spreading this kind of 'avantgarde' electronic scene, Mille Plateaux, where "The Orion Years" has been published, was one of them. Some of those artists been highly appreaciated by the audience, basing their career on such abstract, melodic or not, experimental dance muzik, sometimes assisted by computers or sequencers, sometimes not.  

Thomas P. Heckmann took part to this specific orientation in a very subtle way as his career always been based on techno production. Aside the hits (at the time on top of big charts), Thomas Heckmann always played with outfits and aliases, permitting to spread secretly, more developed and less commercial, maybe more personnal productions through different labels often owned by himself. At the difference of all his productions, the first album under AGE moniker appears to (still) be an UFO of a generation and a career. Hybride Sentimento, in collaboration with Trope, is happy to reissue an album probably timeless for every aspects quoted, and for the reason to be privately worship since 1st meeting. Enjoy!
