Tosca have been curating top shelf remixes of their material for as long as the group has been in existence. While working on their latest remix collection Tlapa, Richard Dorfmeister & Rupert Huber decided to extend an invitation to their fans to contribute remixes. In conjunction with Beatport, they conducted a remix contest for the non-album track "Looking," and after serious deliberation, have chosen Daniel Broadhurst's excellent remix as the winner.

As Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber get ready to tour North America for the first time in many years, the duo has decided to share the original unreleased version of the track "Looking" (which appeared in an alternate version as the bonus track for the album Odeon). With a disco-informed bassline and drum track laced with delicate keys, this track has us even more excited for the live shows.

The collaboration of Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber goes back to their childhood. Sharing the same school for over 8 years made them experience and develop a mutual music taste that covers a bright range of music styles.

This taste is not only, but largely based on their common sense of humor, the fact that they learned to make music together and that they share their musical background and taste. They share the feeling that music is a way of expressing personal feelings as well as living personal freedom.

Being confronted and trained in classical european music in their childhood,  their interest later turned to music from other backgrounds, like blues, jazz, experimental and electronic music from all around the world. This history is partly reflected in their influences mix.

Tosca is the joint musical project of Richard Dorfmeister and Rupert Huber from Vienna, Austria. Their output - including albums like "Opera“ (1996), "Suzuki“ (1999), "Dehli 9“ (2002) and "No Hassle" (2010) are considered milestones of the downtempo genre. The musical trademark of Tosca is a cheerful laid-back feel that emanate a warm, and occasionally melancholic atmosphere. The music of Tosca is played in clubs and living rooms, boutiques and wineries alike. A feat that only few musicians succeed in.

Tosca's new album Odeon is slated to be the first release of 2013 on the duo's longtime home of !K7 Records. Featuring collaborators from Tosca's creative inner circle, including vocalists Sarah Carlier and JJ Jones, the album is darker than their previous five albums, more downbeat, at times ambient. It's unlike anything else out there at the moment.

"What If" appears on Tosca's sixth studio album Odeon featuring Belgian vocalist Sarah Carlier. Rupert Huber describes the concept of the track below.

"'What If' was the first track that we finished for Odeon. The song's basic idea -”what if this was not the case”- can serve as a layout for the whole album: what if noise was a song? What if the sound of the sea was a symphony? What if the ears could listen? The vocals of Belgian singer Sarah Carlier are an instrument like any other instrument on the track, as we always like to do. Every Tosca track is an architecture of sound, and the time of the clock turning into groove-time; Tosca-time. Music is the place where we like to be, where everything is possible, where anything can happen; what if the world was music?"
