Presenting a full force D&B Jungle tearout mix from DJ Bish - a name that has recently gained support from the executioner Andy C who is currently championing not 1, not 2 but 3 of Bish’s productions in his sets. Bish’s latest release; LSD with Zoro and Jappa on the Born On Road label, is doing the rounds and getting all the pull-ups - this mixtape will show you why.   

Drum & Bass DJ & producer, Bish A.K.A Jayke Bishop (28) has been blessing the Bristol rave scene for the last 9 years, being heavily influenced by rave music and its culture. Bish started his journey by playing at underground raves and small club nights back in 2012. Bish was originally well known for his energetic mash-up sets and always raised the energy while switching through the genres. Bish often used to enjoy starting sets at 130-140 BPM, ranging from House and Garage to Bassline Electro and Prog, always switching up and finishing on some heavyweight D'n'B. This genre variation and mastery of crowd energy reading and controlled Bish to playing at bigger events and festivals throughout Europe, such as Boomtown, Glastonbury and Outlook. 

In recent years, Bish has been tearing out the Drum & Bass, supporting acts such as Chase & Status, Shy FX, Fatboy Slim, AMC and Turno. Bish always likes to keep it fresh, but is well known for his eclectic collection of hard-hitting crowd-pleasers and nostalgic anthems, and often enjoys throwing in the odd classic, while consistently styling it out with the hottest dubplates.

With a new outstanding EP, Japanese artist @tomoyoshidnb offers a superb rounded packed full of certified smashers for all partisans of true rollers, classic Bristol Jungle and dope JumpUp. You don't want to miss this stellar release that is cleverly rocking the floor and headphones alike.  Inspired by labels like Dope Dragon, Trouble on Vinyl, early V Recordings and True Playaz, Tomoyoshi brings his full spectrum of signature production skills to the game. The title track "Soldier" is a hypnotic, streetwise and dark roll-out with Reggae vocal snips and a kind of Mobb Deep vibe. A nod to Tomoyoshi's classic Bristol Jungle influence, rewind-candidate "Era" pays homage to the legendary sound of Roni Size and crew as Breakbeat Era. "Slater" stays in the Bristol vein adding a mental bouncing bassline, jazzy bells plus FXs creeping deep into the subconscious reminding of some of the best DJ Die releases on V Recordings. No stranger to fusing Asian melodies with contemporary dancefloor needs, Tomoyoshi uses sublime chimes in combination with a beat structure influenced by HipHop, Rock and Drumfunk alike on "Miso". Crispy beats, moody xylophone speckles, famous Jungle breaks in the switch and the distinctive "six million ways to die"-sample make "Bug" another sure shot on this heavy-weight release. "Acid Chill" rounds of the package and does exactly what it says on the tin: Acid squelches ride over percussive patterns, deep bassline-modulations and jazz-infused atmospheres.

To say that Document One “defy categorisation” wouldn't quite get across the whole truth. For one thing, it's a cliché, and to use a cliché to describe their brand of gritty, smoky, jazz-inspired, funk-infused dancefloor D&B just wouldn't be right. After all, they steer well away from cliché in their music, what with their expert melding of the light and the dark, the natural and the synthetic, the laid-back and the crowd-hyping. They've created their own category, and the two tracks on this release are here to stretch the limits of it a couple of notches further. “Chasing Stars” is the sound of effortlessness. 

Two different flavours of drum, the techy kick and snare plus the loose cymbals and fills, roll alongside each other in the intro. Meanwhile noodling keys and the eponymous vocal riff create a gentle head-nodding vibe. Then, without breaking a sweat, Document One call this casual jam-session to order, with a grimy bassline that weaves the whole track into a tightly-knit roller. This is dangerous rave material that you don't see coming. 

Then “Get Da Funk” goes one step more groovy. Yeah, groovy. That's the word for it. Horns and acoustic drums lay down the vibe, then a Motown-style vocal soars over the top to build things up. Then the drop gives us quintessential Document One, as bass and iron fist drums create a rhythmic combination with vocal and horn stabs that is absolutely irresistible. An ice-cool breakdown with added blues guitar gives the opportunity for even more hype in the second drop. 

These tracks could easily be onstage recordings from some ultra-slick band. The deftly expert programming doesn't detract from the feeling of live energy that Document One manage to get in their music. Like the best jazz or funk acts, it's the sound of accomplished technicians letting loose and having some fun. And while they're having fun, the ravers are too. This is D&B as only Document One do it.
