Mustard Music proudly presents Do It Yourself, the new album from Cornwall-based producer Oli Lewis — a release that steps confidently outside the label’s usual drum & bass funk lane and into something more raw, personal, and uncompromising.

Balancing life as a professional chef by day and a producer by night, Oli Lewis embodies the true spirit of independence. The title Do It Yourself is more than a name — it’s a philosophy that runs through every layer of the record. Written, produced, and crafted in his own meticulously curated analogue studio, the album reflects a hands-on approach that values texture, warmth, and process as much as energy and impact.

Sonically, Do It Yourself leans into a deeper, more stripped-back side of drum & bass. While still rooted in the genre’s foundations, the album explores heavier atmospheres, analogue grit, and a moodier palette than Mustard Music’s trademark funk-led sound. Hardware-driven basslines, tactile drum programming, and subtle imperfections give the tracks a human edge — music made with intent rather than formula.

Living and working in Cornwall has also left its mark. There’s a sense of space and isolation woven into the record, contrasting sharply with the high-pressure kitchen environments that fund Oli’s creative output. That tension — between routine and release, structure and freedom — fuels the album’s character.

Do It Yourself stands as a statement of authenticity: drum & bass created outside the mainstream, built in an analogue workspace, and shaped by an artist who refuses to wait for perfect conditions before creating. For Mustard Music, it marks a bold and refreshing step into new territory.

Renowned for synth-driven symphonies and soothing songwriting, Fred V brings a high dose of octane electronica in the down tempo fix, ‘Burning Me’. Grafix has taken a fresh direction with ‘Frozen’ travelling down the rough and rugged techy route, ready to shatter dancefloors worldwide. Plus it’s about to be a big year for Hospital Records’ commander-in-chief London Elektricity as he returns from the studio a the dynamic funk-ladened D+B spectacular, ‘Funkopolis’.

Other highlights include Benny L’s re-rub of John Holt’s reggae hit ‘Police In Helicopter’, with a rugged bass to make the rave shake. The first lady of Bassline and UKG royalty Flava D also joins the fold for an exclusive first flex into the realms of D+B, the silky slick selection ’Return 2 Me’.

The latest rendition of our ‘Sick Music’ series also sees a string of all-star remixes with Whiney’s robust rework of Degs’ summer anthem ‘Poveglia’, Bop’s long awaited glitch-riddled remix of Anile’s ‘Allergens’ and S.P.Y’s ‘Dusty Fingers’ getting a special Metrik rework. ‘Sick Music 2019’ will be available as a 25-track digital download, 3 x CD (including 1 x Mixed CD) and a limited edition box-set, available exclusively from The Hospital Shop.

Skankandbass is dedicated towards the official promotion of record labels and artists in the world of drum & bass music. Since inception in 2010, Skankandbass has unearthed some of the freshest talents in the scene and has opened many doors for unsigned artists. Now, a few years in to the game, Skankandbass decides to take on the role of a record label to put together a series of free download singles which aims to further help spread the work of the best unsigned, newcomer artists who deserve more recognition.

Ill Truth are no strangers to Skankandbass, having been featured numerous times since their first release on Lockdown Recordings in late 2016.  Despite the relatively short time since their debut, the Bristol natives have made a rapid rise through the ranks.  With appearances on Shogun, Symmetry, Fokuz and Lifestyle under their belt, last year they impressively curated their own VA album showcasing newcomer talent.
