After six months of hibernation, our Satellite Trax sublabel has reawakened to freshen up the club circuit with brand new cuts. This time, we are bringing it back home to highlight one of Chicago’s latest up-and-comers.

As an advocate for Chicago’s diverse and impactful contributions to the expansive music sphere, CURSXR sees himself as a flourishing product of his own environment. From house to jazz, hip-hop to footwork, and everything in between - the support that local artists share for our city’s roots run deep. In this case, his passion for footwork culture has motivated him to explore the enriched subgenre. With an upbeat release via Joog Music from last year that recently caught our attention, he is now set to make his debut on home turf.

Landing somewhere in between moody jungle and textbook footwork, “Vanish Mode EP” is a testament to how the two prolific subgenres coincide. Each track blends lush atmosphere and breaks found in jungle with heavy low-end and playful song structures heard in footwork. The project begins with “Dark Dream,” catapulting the listener into an ethereal realm of breakbeats. “Box-Shaped Heart” is an ode to the style of footwork that we have grown to love: vocal chops and prominent drums pasted over a soulful ambiance. “Space Traffic” takes the EP further left field, bringing in a memorable four-on-the-floor section. The final track “You A Custy” is made for dancefloor battles and will surely land with the footwork connoisseurs cutting it up in a dark room.

With salutes to the fabled Chicago footwork movement, along with a niche yet welcoming local jungle and drum ‘n’ bass community, “Vanish Mode EP” is CURSXR’s promising contribution to our city’s music DNA. We are very thrilled to showcase the newest homegrown talent joining our blossoming collective.

Critical Impact & Fats - Far Away

With Quarter To Quarter, Amsterdam-based record label The North Quarter delivers its first compilation album: a manifesto and its most ambitious project to date.

The 14 track project features prominent vocalists IAMDDB and Azekel, Bass Music legends Total Science and Break and all the core artists that have made Lenzman’s boutique label the breath of fresh air it is today.

The North Quarter is a collective of artists from around the globe, brought together through a shared love for the authentic. Bound by immortal ties and borne of a time long since passed, a pair of twin souls have manifested themselves in recurring reincarnations across the history of this world. Inexorably linked, these two souls go about each of their myriad lives as they will, ignorant of the strands of fate so tightly wound between their disparate forms. Across all climes of our world they have walked, and in their many incarnations they have been both peasants and gods alike, for such is the fate of such spirits who are always destined to be. For all of their many forms, each and every time comes a subtle tug at their self woven webs, one that fills them with a yearning for something unfamiliar yet known. Thus it is that no matter the distance between them, each shall come to meet the other in some due time, for thus it is that their souls are intertwined. Whether meeting as equals of the material world, or as bearers of titles both lowly and high, this meeting brings a sole realization to their twin bonded minds.

From here are born their legends, heroic and tragic, of this strange pair of souls that has been flung across time. For their fate is unique and apart from any other, and so it is that these two may stand both as enemies or brothers. For every tale of these twins in which they fell some great beast, there is an equal where one does fall at the others feat. They are inseparable allies & horrible foes, cursed with this fate by a power unknown. They were, they are, and they will be again, and perhaps at this moment they call each other “friend.” Yet in their next life that same term may invoke bile, anger for the twin each so utterly reviles. Thus it is that their story may be told with one single word, that modern term FRENEMIES which is so often heard.

TOBAX summons the kindred spirits of the EATBRAIN horde with his FRENEMIES EP, which follows his 2019 EP “Seized Moment” EP and an appearance on the “Divergence II” compilation as the next part of a long collaborative history between himself and EATBRAIN. From the titular collaboration with MC KRYPTOMEDIC to the uniquely melodic 12 INCHES, FRENEMIES features four full frontal & furious Drum & Bass tracks in the style for which TOBAX is so well known.

This tune was meant to be a joke for Instagram. In less than 6 hours it turned out to be one of the most unique compositions we’ve released to date.

Since April we have released 2 EPs. Formation and Hyperdrive which represented our heavy bass music side, however as this year comes to an end, we thought it would be nice to introduce an organic sound that could serve as a soundtrack to creating nice memories over the upcoming Christmas holidays.

We also made a decision to raise awareness about the current situation in the world - COVID 19, current regulations around it and our thoughts about it in our Vlog about this tune. It's up on our main socials.

All the proceeds from this release will be donated to “COVID 19 Appeal and NHS Charities Together“ as a way to say Thank You to those who are taking care of the nation during the COVID 19 pandemic.
