We are happy to welcome Maceo Plex to Drumcode with the fourth instalment of his Conjure series, ‘Conjure Infinity’. Featuring two tracks ‘Conjure Dreams’ and ‘Conjure Floyd’, both are peak time monsters that introduce two very different elements. ‘Conjure Dreams’ utilises a groovy, melodic bass that is reinforced using tight thumping drums to shatter any dance floor into the universe. ‘Conjure Floyd’ builds into a more ‘heads down’ techno vibe with a very interesting breakdown. Two sure fire tracks to ignite the floor.

Hot on the heels of the A-Sides Volume 5 compilation, Enrico Sangiuliano makes his return to Drumcode with his highly anticipated EP ‘Moon Rocks’. The heavy hitting four track EP shines a light on Sangiuliano’s tight, thundering production skills. The hoover heavy lead track ‘Moon Rocks’ is packed with booming percussion, intricate synths and brooding crescendos. The EP encapsulates Sangiuliano’s wide spectrum of sounds ranging from the fat bass line of ‘Moon Rocks’ to the more delicate harmonies shown within the ‘Dutch Kiss’ mixes whilst ‘Ghettoblaster’ sits somewhere in between.

Enrico Sangiuliano - Astral Projection

Since 2006, the Deep Heet series of recordings has shown the public an especially distinctive side of the production work of Planetary Assault Systems. With a unique ‘engine room’ ambience and a focus upon maintaining a continual surge of pure energy, each volume in the Deep Heet collection has lived up to that title, subtly suggesting the kind of sustained and voluntary temperature rise that has traditionally given way to spiritual or visionary experiences. Just check out tracks such as “Flat Tire” from Volume 3, with its hard percussive edge accompanied by a pervasive hiss like boiling matter changing into gas. P.A.S. helmsman Luke Slater also thinks highly enough of this series to re-work tracks like “Whistle Viper” in recent live sets, or to offer up others (e.g. “Raid”) for remixing by Mote-Evolver allies.

It’s only appropriate, then, that the 50th overall release on Mote-Evolver should also be the fourth overall volume of Deep Heet. In keeping with Slater’s recent forward-thinking self-assessments like the “Planetary Funk” anniversary series, this is simultaneously a summary of past successes and another new evolution in style and content. This new set of four highly concentrated cuts shows how effective Planetary Assault Systems can be at fueling the imagination by fusing together rhythmic and incidental elements into a unified, animated meshwork, without even a prominent melody to help out. For example, on the compelling track “Lazer Organical,” listeners will find themselves in the midst of a testing range where thick arcs of coherent plasma ricochet off of the walls.

Deep Heet Vol. 4 also showcases Slater’s aptitude for choosing just the right moments to deviate from a steady groove: on the mesmerizing bubblebath of “Random Kingdom,” he allows listeners to sink into the rising sonic foam before interjecting with some sharp metallic hits. The leadoff track “Desert Races” proceeds in similar fashion, weaving a web of luminous sequencer patterns around the listener before and cutting in with sudden fluctuations or distortions that function like a hypnotist’s suggestions after an entranced patient has become fully responsive. “Life Rhythm,” on the other hand, is a total immersion session in which Slater’s presence seems to recede into the background and listeners themselves may begin imagining overtones and sonic ephemera that weren’t programmed into the original track.

Following releases from the likes of Ian ODonovan, Many Reasons, D-Unity and Matt Sassari, this new Intec release is a two track collaborative EP from Nuria Ghia and Gaston Zani, who are both making their label debut. Nuria Ghia is an artist based in Barcelona who has more than 15 years experience playing in Spain, Europe and Latin America. Nominated by leading Spanish print publication Vicious Magazine as Best Artist of the Year and Best Techno Artist of the Year, she has also released music on labels including Deeperfect, Serkal, Globox, Bondage and her own BlueCube. Gaston Zani is originally from Spain but currently living in the UK, having learned his production skills working alongside the likes of David Penn and D.Ramirez. After the success of his first release in 2015 he has followed up with an impressive string of releases on labels that include Toolroom, Bitten, Agile, Pornographic and Phobiq Recordings. This is the first time Nuria Ghia and Gaston Zani have collaborated, and with a combined output of this exceptional quality, Im sure we will be seeing more of them joining forces in the future. 

Track one No Sense has murky textures and a pulsating groove thats augmented with rolling percussion and bass stabs to lay the tracks foundation. Unfolding with a purposeful momentum, a menacing atmosphere is revealed that is both enthralling and intense. Like a predator hunting its prey, each movement is precise and perfectly executed, and the end result is dancefloor focused Techno perfect for peak time DJ sets. 

The second track Uncoded has a dark atmosphere with tense pads and tough percussion to provide the tracks driving force. Building with suspense, the lead synth cuts through with a subtle sense of euphoria that contrasts with the otherwise ferocious groove. Captivating from start to finish, this track is stripped back Techno tailor made for club soundsystems.

This week´s #AMFM is the second hour of the set that I played at @pachabarcelona on September 10th, a Sunday night. Of what I heard, the busiest Sunday ever so far at Pacha Barcelona. Well, let´s not gimme the whole credit for that (although my DJ ego would love that), there also was a public bank holiday on Monday … still - what a crowd and what a vibe! @flug played a great opening set and I think I could have gone on for hours and hours to be honest. Anyways, in the end it was a 4,5h set and you will be able to relive it within these 4 weeks now. Barcelona rocks! Muchas Gracias!

Ben Sims Mix for Mumdance on Rinse FM (No Voiceover)

Drumcode has become a label synonymous with some of the most-cutting edge and forward-thinking techno over the last 20 years. Their artists include both emerging and established names, and one of those well recognised is Enrico Sangiuliano. Now announcing the very first concept album of his career.

The prolific Italian producer has been catapulted into the limelight after the runaway success of his past releases, and now Biomorph is born. 

A very special concept album designed to take the listener on a journey of evolution. A musical adaptation describing how biological and technological advances over numerous generations of time have all started from the same first step in our own biological journey.

Divided into 4 parts, Organisms opens with atmospheric tones, gradually blending complex textures and timbres to begin the evolutional process. The beginning of this section combines full sounding arrangements before stripping it all back to basics. From here it dissolves into the atmosphere. Organisms then progresses into a break-beat influenced, down tempo track using synths to add complexity to the straight, broken rhythms.

Galactic, futuristic elements are found in both tracks in Cosmic Forces. Upbeat, groovy, electronic synths resonate, before ‘Hidden T’ brings the tension to get things pumped up with stratospheric swirls and twirls to lay down one of the most mind meltingly deep drops.

Metamorphosis is mysterious, its opening beat is a deep and piercing tone that sends the listener into a sensory awareness of their surroundings before breaking into a fully charged, techno track, with Enrico’s trademark sounds and textures.

All evolution has an ending.

Two Probabilities shows the positive, starting out evocative and emotional, with a gentle harmony, gazing towards a ‘New Dawn’. On the other side of the spectrum lies the negative. This is influenced with a rhythm that articulates the beat of death, mathematical, cold and metallic in texture, it shows the unsustainability of its nature, with a hectic, anxious break beat influenced ending.
