Residents at Tokyo's legendary Womb, the duo has notched up a string of quality releases on labels including Tronic, Terminal M and Octopus over the years, reinforcing themselves as one of Japan's most treasured techno acts.

Drunken Kong have a distinct sound signature, as dreamy melodic and vocal elements rub shoulders with the pair's trademark groove-orientated rhythms to create hypnotic techno outings that span the breadth of the genre, from heads down rollers to peak-time pleasure.

Drunken Kong have a distinct sound signature, as dreamy melodic and vocal elements rub shoulders with the pair’s trademark groove-orientated rhythms to create hypnotic techno outings that span the breadth of the genre, from heads down rollers to peak-time pleasure.

Their maiden outing on Drumcode is an inspiring four-track work ‘I Want To See’ that lays down this sonic manifesto, with each track built around different vocal samples used to skilful effect. EP opener ‘It’s Then’ brings atmosphere in spades, mixing up a chugging bottom end, a sleek synth line and a sublime vocal that simmers throughout. The title track is another late-night dancefloor affair that shifts between function and fun, as a slick mix of polished grooves and hypnotising melodies build towards 
a thrilling crescendo. ‘That’s It’ brings peak-time energy against a plump electro backbone and ’90-tinged vocal. The EP rounds out with evocative ‘Need It’, as a stirring vox and metallic drumlines propel the track forward.

Next up on Lisbon's VOLTA is an accomplished 2-tracker from Sisyphos regular Mattia Saviolo.

'Nirvana' kicks things off with some immaculately produced euphoria. Clean, powerful drums and a boxing sub bass lay a broad-shouldered foundation that'll stretch even the most potent of sound systems. What unfurls over this sturdy substructure is a battery of mangled frequencies and warm, luscious synthesis that accumulates energy as it surges toward a spine-tingling breakdown. The track is completely dissolved into a chasmic pool before it charges back up toward a drop that will soundtrack countless standout moments across festival and warehouse dancefloors over summer.

'Together' follows up with another burly set up bones as a dense kick drills through a slew of metallic signals. Savilio then pours more heartstring tones over top as an arresting energy develops toward another wide open breakdown. Fractal vocals rebound off a blossoming arp and together they gather energy towards a striking drop guaranteed to wake up the floor; raw, hard-hitting drums adorned with rich, emotive melodies - truly VOLTA's signature sound in evidence.
