After repeated chart topping efforts on Kraftek, UK duo Spektre return with the darkly seductive vocals of Berliner Juliet Fox. The rhythmic undulations of the groove create the perfect platform upon which Fox's vocals crawl on hands and knees, beckoning the listener deeper into the sonic landscape like some siren of techno mythology, but it's once the listener is fully entranced by her mantric incantation, "I'm Thinking About You....and the things you do to me...." that the Spektre boys unveil the final piece of this modern masterpiece: the hook. Unabashedly trance inspired without any of the corresponding uplifting overtones, no this isn't your old trance record with new makeup on - this is it's own animal and one fully aware of it's power. Following a recent killer release on Drumcode, Dutch-Chilean techno producer Ramon Tapia returns to his own imprint, Say What?, with the ‘Last Step’.

The three-tracker features two originals and a Nicolas Taboada remix — all tunes are soaked in Tapia’s trademark dancefloor-ready sound.

The title track opens the release  and sets the mood just right with its powerful kickdrums, dark synths and hypnotising percussions. Up next, ‘Plastik’ picks things where ‘Last Step’ left off to enchant us with its deep sound, rich atmospheres and angelic vocals. Last but not least, the Nicolas Taboada remix gives ‘Plastik’ a darker twist, making it the perfect peak-time dancefloor weapon.  

Ramon Tapia will release Last Step via Say What? on December 6.

Drumcode starts 2020 with a sterling EP from genre hero Thomas Schumacher, his first on the label after a long association with Adam Beyer.

No ifs or buts, if you’re a techno fan, Thomas Schumacher holds a place in your heart. His 1997 classic ‘When I Rock’ still gets rinsed, he has a vast body of stellar work on his influential former label Spielzeug Schallplatten, including a release from Adam Beyer, and he continues to deliver pin-sharp productions via his Electric Ballroom imprint, including a scorching remix of ‘The House of House’, the 1994 classic from Cherry Moon Trax. The rework was first played by Beyer at Time Warp and has been a 2019 highlight.

He first contributed to Drumcode in 2018 with ‘The Unseen’, a stirring contribution to ‘A-Sides Vol.7’, setting up a maiden EP with ‘Crimson’. Beginning with the brilliant ‘Feist’, it’s a no-nonsense brain melter, as 303 arpeggios bloom and recede, creating a thrilling rhythmic intensity throughout. The title track ‘Crimson’ is crafted around two minutes of tension-building synths, before a beat finally appears and a rasping deep bassline commands the dancefloor. ‘Anker’ brings the rave with eagle-eye focus, unleashing a wall of fierce acid to round out the pack.

RSPKT178 is the long-awaited debut EP from Brennen Grey on Respekt. After a killer remix on Stiv Hey's 'Can't Stop' a year ago, we're hyped to have him back on the label with 3 servings of his signature aural cuisine.
'Carpe Omne' kicks things off with soaring, off-kilter arpeggios and gated vocal fragments, before peaking with a massive, laser-reaching breakdown, then steaming back in with all out mayhem.
'Voice of the Void' continues the eerie theme with gothic choirs and demonic drones, whilst 'Les Dieux' serves as a less melody-driven counterpoint to it's sister tracks, relying on a seismic kickdrum and sparse synth stabs to round out the release.
