Dry Wet, Bassiks - Heavy North Side (Dave Alyan Remix)

This work marks a welcome return for Torwellen after four years away. Before that, he established himself with a dark, dense and introspective sound and headlined major events around the world, from Nature One and Mayday to venues in Buenos Aires, Berlin and everywhere in between. He also ran his own events and founded the e-learning platform SINEE while evolving his meticulous style.

Inspired by his enduring work with modular synths, the new album was made on a refined modular system, processed into a signature sample pack and arranged in Ableton. The tracks were then mixed in analogue to create an organic, coherent sound aesthetic, meaning that '10 000 Black Seeds' is more than club-ready music; it is a document of Torwellen's own artistic development.

The title cut ‘10 000 Black Seeds’ opens up with drums so heavy they will rattle walls. Glitchy claps peel off the groove, and the atmosphere is brilliantly dark and moody. 'World(t)error' is just as big and powerful with rolling percussion and gritty warehouse vibes, until 'March Of The Transients' picks up the pace with quicker, banging drums and fizzing synths adding to the texture. There is eerie suspense in 'Alone In The Womb' with its elastic bassline and tense synth pulses, 'Under The Cloak Of Anger' has frosty static electricity running through the middle of the high impact drums and 'All Those Who Wander' has more thumping kicks and mind-melting synth details racing along before 'Children Of The Twilight' and 'The Ghost Orchard Mythos' close out this stripped back but powerful techno album with two more fearsome cuts.

‘10 000 Black Seeds’ is a fantastic sonic homecoming that reflects every facet of Torwellen’s signature sound. ‘March Of The Transients’ and ‘Under The Cloak Of Anger’ are out on 16th February and 15th March, respectively, with the whole LP dropping on 26th April 2024.

Japan’s Risa Taniguchi continues her streak of releases on CLR with the ‘Wakes From Coma’ EP. The tastemaker returns a month after her last outing on Chris Liebing’s label, 'So Loud'.

Risa Taniguchi’s 'Wakes from Coma' two-tracker on Chris Liebing’s CLR is a powerful piece of frenzied techno, with looming synth stabs and incendiary hi-hats piling on the pressure while its rolling beat powers on. The hard-hitting 'Mental Rut' ups the stakes next with distorted walls of noise, hammering kicks, and swirling synth textures that obscure the chopped-up vocal stabs. It's the sound of pure and brilliant dancefloor madness.

The Tokyo-based Risa Taniguchi last appeared on CLR in Spring with the ‘So Loud’ EP, which won support from artists like Dave Clarke, Kelly Lee Owens, and Luke Slater, following her first arrival on Liebing’s label in 2022 alongside Black Asteroid, the ‘Acid Flesh’ EP. At the forefront of the Japanese techno scene, Taniguchi’s music on labels like Second State and Kneaded Pains mixes dark, lo-fi sound, distorted textures, and slow-burning energy that always hits its mark.

DJ Dextro’s ‘Motivo’ EP on CLR begins with the first part of the title track, in which dubby synths swish and roll between thudding kicks while sturdy claps keep the rhythm. ‘Motivo 1’ is a powerful techno tool, smooth with a deep and dreamy atmosphere and perfect for those late-night trips. ‘Motivo 2’, on the other hand, lends to the darker side of techno, its low-end bubbling among alien machines as its sequences ride and click along the drums, making for a potent and hypnotic club track.

Active since the early ‘90s, Portuguese artist DJ Dextro lands on CLR following a vast discography on labels like UNCAGE, Planet Rhythm and Portugal’s very own Naked Lunch Records. He’s also a prolific remixer, having reworked music from artists such as The Advent, Scuba, and Drumcomplex. With the ‘Motivo’ EP, DJ Dextro shows his decades of experience with two detailed techno compositions, which rightfully find their place on Chris Liebing’s celebrated CLR imprint.

Founded by influential techno lynchpin Chris Liebing in 1999 and reemerging in 2021 after a five-year hiatus, Create Learn Repeat (CLR) has hosted a range of artists like DEAS, Shlomi Aber, Drumcell, Truncate and more while also focussing on developing newer acts in the scene such as B. Dubfire & Flug join forces for the ‘Magma’ EP on Chris Liebing’s CLR imprint, landing 27th September 2024. The EP marks SCI+TEC boss and Deep Dish legend Dubfire’s debut on CLR, with Argentinian techno lynchpin Flug returning to the label for the first time since his ‘Sincrodestino’ EP in 2014.

Dubfire & Flug’s ‘Magma’ EP on CLR starts with the title track, which sees crackling dub hits echo up top whilst deep low-end courses beneath its steady groove. ‘Magma’ is a raw and overwhelming force destined for late nights on powerful systems, enthralling dancers with its cavernous drops and frenzied soundscapes. ‘Friction’ then eases us in with whirring, electrifying acid as distant synths inch closer, culminating in a shadowy and hypnotic warehouse cut.
