Yes, it really has been fifteen years since Future Tech (aka Drumsound & Bassline Smith) signalled the beginning of the Technique Recordings odyssey with their eponymous debut collaboration. Since then, the drum and bass sound has spread its tendrils from the dark corners of the underground into the limelight of mainstream appreciation. And Technique has been at the forefront of that evolution all the way. So, here's an LP to show the world exactly what a decade and a half among the top tier of D&B labels sounds like.

Label heads Drumsound & Bassline Smith take pole position, dropping straight into the drama of the Friction-supported “Spring Heel Jack”. Then comes another of Technique's most recognisable acts, Tantrum Desire with the low-down funk of “Shuffle”, followed by another Friction-favourite from the bossmen with “Sputnik”. The big names keep coming throughout the album, as Crissy Criss supplies the VIP of his monumental “Create the Future” and the mighty Digital goes dubbed-out with a remix of “Phantasm”. Plus Drumsound & Bassline Smith's alter-ego 2DB pass through with the highly-grimey “Terrahawk” and L Plus delivers two precision-engineered killers in the form of “Red Planet” and “Going Down”.

Flipping the script, Technique new boys Document One strike from two angles with the laid-back “Jazz Club” and the dirty dancefloor uppercut of “Body Like Wow”. TREi takes us to the big room with “Here & Now”, and the ever-individual MaxNRG shows off his ability to combine energy with melody on “Far Frontiers of Space”. Erb N Dub and Skope recruit Mr Dirty Smirks, MC SMK himself, to bring some typically hard bars to “Pull it Back”. Kronology does what it says on the tin with some “Razor Sharp” technoid-jungle vibes. And Aussie badman Spectrem brings some hands-in-the-air euphoria with “Say Goodbye” and then roughen things up with “The Future”. Infrasonik take the honour of completing the collection with “Bricks Breaking”. And finally, Drumsound & Bassline Smith step back up for a lap of honour with a mix of all the tracks from the LP.

From the veteran headliners to the breakthrough talent, from the filthy rave-wreckers to the stadium-sized anthems, this album demonstrates the versatility and innovation that has kept Technique Recordings' status for all this time. UK drum & bass heroes Drumsound & Bassline Smith are back to their brilliant best on future classic ‘Fearless’. The Midlands based trio have spawned numerous hits in recent years, with ‘across the board’ tastemaker support from MistaJam to Annie Mac, and ‘Fearless’ is tipped to be their biggest single yet.

Built on a rock-solid beat and heavy bassline, ‘Fearless’ is an uplifting, high-energy D&B track, taken to the next level by the vocal talents of ‘one to watch’ Stealth - who recently appeared on Roger Sanchez’s new track ‘Remember Me’ (Pete Tong Essential New Tune). Also featured are LCGC (aka London Community Gospel Choir) - who provide stunning the backing vocals on ‘Fearless’. 15 Years of Technique – Summer Selection Album

It's sunshine time again. The time when we need a new D&B soundtrack to score our festivals, carnivals, pool parties and barbecues. And you'd struggle to find anyone better qualified to curate that soundtrack than Technique's bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith. Just a quick glance at their immense back catalogue of anthemic releases or their packed international bookings diary is enough to demonstrate that they know exactly how to bring those summertime vibes.

Things kick off in suitably monumental fashion with a cut from the head honchos themselves, “I Need Somebody”. If you were looking out from a festival stage at a sea of excited hands in the air, this tune's searing vocal hook and unrelenting waves of bass would suit that scene perfectly. And, of course, this album contains a lethal dosage of similarly colossal tracks. For example, MaxNRG enlists a quirky vocal from Marianna to boost the hype-levels on “Headshot” and recent signing Kronology delivers the driving and euphoric “Untouchable”. Plus, there are some sizeable contributions to the big-room roll call from a few names you won't have seen on Technique before, like Oder's “Closer” and T-Phonic & Deadman's “Show Me the Way”.

But summer's not all about the shades-on daytime raving, we need some choice sunset material too for when things get a little darker. Document One and Spectrem exemplify this beautifully with the laid-back and jazzy “Falling” and the Kyphosis-laced “Fade” respectively. Helsinki's liquid maestros LAOS pass through to drop “City Lights” and “Belong”, and Tantrum Desire treats us to the effervescent “Sea Breeze”. For when things get darker still, there are tracks like the technoid, percussive world-unto-itself of Salaryman & Dark Machine's “Night Shift”. Guys like Conspire and Brian Brainstorm bring some full-on jungle, and the whole compilation is peppered with alternative sounds like Digital's dub workout “Groove Together”.

The thirty-one tracks here represent a cross-section of the mighty, multi-stranded, multi-form D&B scene and what it can do for summer 2015. There are names you'll know and names you might not know yet. There are huge mainstream anthems and shadow-bound subtleties. There are tunes for midday and tunes for four in the morning. And for four in the afternoon the next day. Ultimately, this isn't the sound of the summer, this is all the many different sounds of the summer put together on one album. So, the soundtrack's sorted, time to go out and have a summertime that's worthy of it!

When Technique Recordings bosses Drumsound & Bassline Smith come with a fresh release, they've got some big expectations to fulfil. True heads will know that their roots were firmly planted back in the old skool of nineties rave culture. And, this millennium, they've built and sustained a reputation as architects of the big room style that's seen drum and bass explode in popularity. So, how are they going to live up to that this time?

Well, “The Truth” promises great things from the outset. A panoramic landscape is laid out before us, with dunes of unforgiving percussive sounds overcast by clouds of minor key tonalities and dark-child dialogue. It's the quiet before the riot, punctured by an alarm call signal flare which sparks things into life. Then the drop delivers a straight-up punch-up between bass and treble, as call and response patterns merge and collide to create an unrelenting groove. This is the EDM paradigm delivered with a junglist mentality and rarely-seen layers of subtlety to satisfy the listener as well as the raver.

“Outlaw Renegade” teleports us straight to the wild west on some distant technologically-advanced planet. The intro lays out a scene of the deserted main street where building percussion and feedback sweeps are the harbingers of the gangsta vibes about to ride through. The drop is constructed around road-hard drums, which provide a rock-solid foundation for the bassline to go to work. And that low-end drives through with sub-shattering force, creating a wave to overdose even the most hardcore bass-addict.

We all know that Drumsound & Bassline Smith deliver nothing but big tunes. The two tracks on this release serve as a reminder that underpinning that floor-filling, rave-filling, arena-filing reputation, are some seriously impressive musical and technical skills. These pieces are cinematic in ambition and attention to detail and that means they're going to be drawn for time and time again by knowledgable DJs across the globe.

We've barely recovered from the sun-scorched assault of Technique's Summer 2016 album, and yet, already, there's more Drumsound & Bassline Smith material for us to get our ears around. Proving they've got too much fire for one label to contain, their recent excursions on Playaz and Function Records have been setting raves alight, and now they're back on their home turf. So, what have the Technique bosses cooked up for us this time?

First on the menu is “I'm Gone”. And this one isn't just a Tune with a capital T, it's also a Song with a capital S. Bully hasn't just provided a singalong hook, but a fully structured lyric which drives the track just as much as the relentless bassline. From the lighters-up intro through to the soar of the build to the solar-plexus strike of the drop, this is going to deliver everywhere from festival main stages to early-hours after-parties. No watering-down, no gentle chaser, just a neat shot of pure vocal drum and bass.

And then it's time to handle “The Truth”. The original hit hard when it dropped at the end of last year, but now Drumsound & Bassline Smith have unleashed the VIP and things have got even more serious. First of all, the intro has an extra level of cinematic sci-fi epicness, which perfectly sets us up for the additional brutality of the drop. The militantly staccato bass of the original is given a re-lick with more unpredictable twists and turns. This is one for selectors to pull out to ensure they keep the rave in the palm of their hand.

Drumsound & Bassline Smith are one of the most significant acts in drum 'n' bass. Their foundations were built in the very earliest days of rave, and their productions have never lost that pioneering spirit. Bridging the gap between the underground and mainstream, able to smash the biggest festival stages while still able to rinse it out for the aficionados, they've proven their status time and time again. And, now, they've got a a brand new album for us, “Wardance”. The first single, “Come With Me”, is already shutting down dances everywhere and stormed to the top of the DnB charts, so the follow-up comes loaded with anticipation.

This time, we're being treated to the LP's title track, and it's clear that Drumsound & Bassline Smith aren't playing. “Wardance” opens in a dark, forbidding landscape of unsettling scythe-swings of synth-brass and dissonant pads. It all blatantly signifies approaching danger. As gritty, grimed-up orchestral stabs fill the atmosphere, and chest-crushing sledgehammer kick drums build, it's time for ravers to find their space on the floor. We already know this one's going to be weighty.

The drop has Drumsound & Bassline Smith's name written all over it. Whiplash strikes of kick and snare, supported by the rolling breaks that have always featured in their work, keep it moving. Insistently sustained waves of bassline, and those electric-charge modulations to mark out the ends of phrases, drive the energy onwards. This one's going to be a deejay's weapon of choice across the sub-genre divisions. Tech, rollers, jump-up, however a selector classifies themselves, they're going to want this on their USB for when it's rave-destruction time.

It might only be the second taste we've had of the “Wardance” album, but this release, combined with “Come With Me”, demonstrates that Drumsound & Bassline Smith are at the top of their game. Of course, there's the scientific production technicality born of long years of experience, but that's not all that's on offer. These producers add an intimate understanding of how to bring vibes to a dancefloor. Essentially, these singles tell us that the album is going to be absolutely lethal.

2012 has fast become one of Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s biggest years to date; their first solo single of the year ‘Through The Night’ quickly became a festival anthem, racking up over half a million hits on YouTube and remaining on the Radio 1 A-List for a whopping 5 weeks. Annie Mac labelled it a ‘summer smash’ whilst Radio 1’s presenter Dev named it his ‘Big Thing’ (Record of The Week), before it finally charted in the UK Top 40. Rewind to the beginning of the year where the trio won two accolades (Best Track & Best Video) at the Drum & Bass Awards 2012, whilst also scoring another UK Top 40 hit along with Utah Saints on ‘What Can You Do For Me’.

Hadouken! stormed back this year signing with Ministry of Sound showcasing their new musical direction with bass-laced single ‘Bad Signal’ released earlier this summer before hooking up with the dnb trio on ‘Daylight’.  

Premiering on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show ‘Daylight’ combines a classic Hadouken! alt rock tempo, with aggressive guitar riffs and Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s hard hitting basslines. We catch Drumsound & Bassline Smith right in the middle of a run of huge releases. As well as their Technique output like 'Nexus' and 'Power of the Future', they've delivered 'All Crews', one of the stand-outs from V Recordings' 'Future' album, and a huge remix of 'Fire' for Rampage alongside Tantrum Desire. And, continuing the trend, this release is already hitting hard, chalking up Radio 1 airplay and A-list deejay support everywhere.

And no wonder.

From bar number one, this is a classy and classic tribute to the essence of dance music culture. That dialogue sample, the house-tinged piano, the subtle stabs setting the scene; all combined to conjure those original uplifting rave vibes. Then, those punchy drums in the build delivering an almost-four-to-the-floor beat complete the picture. This is a shout out to the old skool, delivered by producers who know the score because they lived it first-hand.

And then we drop into a junglist paradise of breaks. There's a barrage of Thinks, Amens, and more, pummelling the dance into submission while a guillotine-blade of bass delivers the coup de grâce. Let's be clear, though. This is a callback, not a throwback. The elements of early hardcore-into-jungle rave music are here, but configured into an unmistakeably contemporary track. One to unite the generations.
