Infest has been producing breakbeat music for more than a decade now and he is known for a string of highly emotive drum and bass releases on a variety of well-respected labels. Infest is not only a respected DJ and producer, but also label boss of Next Phase Records, an exciting label that aims to release an eclectic mix of breakbeat driven music unrestricted by BPM. Music, design and art have run through his blood since childhood and his appetite for expression and an attention to detail stands at the forefront of every track, design or painting Robbert crafts. He achieves this connection by building rich cinematic and emotive productions that combine with his artwork to form an audio visual journey through a wonderfully vivid universe overflowing with empathy.

Infest - Drumfunk Selection | Certain Sounds Winter Mix Drop 2021 | Part Two

Second of the 5K celebrations, final mix of the year: a re-imagined, alternate Platinum Breakz ... inverted, if you will. Forgive the Tenet reference :)

The starting point here was Lemon D's This Is LA, a bonus track from the US PB1 release, which would have made it into the first mix had I realised in time. Choosing the rest was a piece of piss, but that 'exclusive' element provided by Unofficial Ghost et al was missing - so the selection is bolstered with a couple of unreleased dubs that emerged more recently on Infra-Red and Deep Jungle (Your Sound VIP is a no-brainer, and I'm sure Another Dimension was  destined for Headz). Add to that a few Razor's Edge joints and some classic Rufige Kru flavour - Manslaughter '96 (cheekily borrowed from Reinforced, as it first appeared on the flip of the Metropolis dubplate), and the mighty Fury from Saturnz Return - and we're good to go. Let's skirt over the fact Pressin' On came out on PB2, Hidden Agenda deserve a couple of spots this time around. The final line-up:

Law - Unreleased Jungle Selection

Unable to track down the official Grooverider mixtape, I made my own instead :) 

Somehow I was oblivious to the irony of the title, but my man Lex (@jungleteknoftw) reasonably pointed out that this 1994 compilation isn't hardstep, indeed it seems to be a premature coining of the phrase a year too early; but what it sure as hell is, is an authentic snapshot of the wide variety of music hammering the dancefloors back in the golden year of jungle. From the laid-back style of Bukem and Alex Reece, through more hardcore/ravey vibes from the Awesome camp, dark and deadly business from Dillinja, Photek and Rider himself, and then Tom & Jerry, L Double, Mental Power and Brainkillers serving up the 'jungle' jungle side of things... selection-wise, this has it all. 

It's not without its flaws - skirting over the artwork, the vinyl pressing wasn't the loudest (as I can attest) and lacked the Noodles & Wonder exclusive; tracks on all versions are edited under the 5-minute mark (I had to replace the last two, couldn't cope with having just the first half of 'Music' as the closer)... and I coulda done without the SS tune, that vocal gets on my tits. But none of that really matters at all, I have very fond memories of this comp and the time it harks back to.

Rumbleton's mix starts easy, with some dark and deadly drumfunk, with accompanying ethereal melodies! The mix fluidly moves from tune, highlighting tracks with that infectious, apache break! Rumbleton's mix builds into crisp amens, warm amens, and jungle, cooling down in the outro with a wicked, drumfunk tune of his own!! MASSIVE, MASSIVE mix!!

Rumbleton Bio:
I was born & raised in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, in a not very musical family, but there was appreciation for music and my father had a nice record collection. I started
buying cassettes and records in the late 1980’s and making pause-tapes, later joining a local crew called Tremor Soundsystem in 1991, playing at places like school dances, banquets, & weddings. I bought my own pair of Tech 12s in 1993 and was already well
into breakbeats and hardcore when Jungle started. Some of the local DJ’s I really looked up to at the time were “Deadly” Headley Jones, Dr.No, Ruffneck, Jungle PHD, and Medicine Muffin. 
In Toronto throughout the 90’s and 00’s I worked as a DJ,
Producer, FM Radio presenter, D&B buyer/shopkeeper at DML Records in Scarborough, and even driver and box boy for the shop’s massive sound system. I’d been messing with production but receiving zero guidance, so it was a long journey. I cut my first tune to dub plate in 1998 and it was,.. well lets say a learning experience. I
kept on learning the ways and my first vinyl 12” was released in 2009 on Outsider with longtime friend Gremlinz, followed by my first solo release on Scientific Wax Digital in
2010. In 2011 I was invited to perform at Rupture in London UK, and have been back every year since. Later in 2011 I began broadcasting Stand Firm Hi-Fi on Jungletrain.net after strong insistence from station manager and good friend Antidote (RIP).

I’ve had music released on Metalheadz, Rupture LDN, Scientific Wax Digital, Skeleton, DSC14, Samurai, Horizons, Eastern Promise Audio, NorthOf7, 4th Planet, SweetSensi Records, and my own Stand Firm Hi-Fi label, amongst others. In 2017 Karen Soulpride, Jesta, Gremlinz, and myself formed Drumcraft, a place in Toronto for us to showcase our own music, and music from our associated labels and producers.
Stand Firm Hi-Fi is live on jungletrain.net every 2nd Tuesday, 9 years in and no intention of stopping.
