Following the internationally celebrated release of their debut album The Signs Within in 2017, burgeoning Japanese techno duo Drunken Kong look to kick off a brand new decade in emphatic fashion, with the release of their eagerly-anticipated sophomore long player, Where We Start.

Out now via Christian Smith's esteemed Tronic Music imprint, Where We Start marks the second full-length opus from the Tokyo-based outfit, whose impressive catalogue of unique techno productions have also been homed by the likes of Terminal M, Octopus Recordings, Stil Vor Talent and Session Womb to name a few.

Featuring a total of sixteen diverse cuts, including thirteen brand new Drunken Kong originals, two recent collaborations with Mainz-based outfit Teenage Mutants and one exclusive new collab with Tronic head honcho Christian Smith, Where We Start is Drunken Kong's most extensive body of work to date, and goes a long way in showcasing the inexhaustible creativity of one of the most prolific double acts in techno right now. Speaking about the forthcoming album release and the inspiration behind the project, Drunken Kong commented:

'Our new album, 'Where We Start' was built around an idea and inspiration that came from our new stage in life, which was parenting. Having a child, was something new to us and we wanted to create an album which directly reflected and captured various feelings and emotions we had at different moments'.

We recently had a remix competition for one of Drunken Kong's tracks called 'Peace'. Over 300 producers submitted their remixes and we chose three winners. Japan's Hisashi Aochi delivered a Balearic piano infused remix, whereas Italian's Stiv Hey and The Southern gave the track a more peak time treatment. To finish off the winners, UK's Ettica delivered a sublime melodic interpretation. We are very proud of all the remix submissions and want to congratulate the winners for a job well done!

The track "Copilot" starts the release is full of dark percussions and a trance-inducing bass layer. This is all supported by very melancholic melodies. It all comes together in a beautiful and exciting break  that brings the track to a hard hitting drop full of vocal samples and hard hitting basses. A track to take the club on a very hypnotic trip.

On the flip side is "Intensity" with a rolling bassline, dark pounding kick and energetic groove. Followed by a catchy vocal sample and beautiful melodic elements to seal the idea and take you on a musical journey.

"Son of a God" starts with a rolling bassline and hypnotic ambient on top of a hard pounding kick. The track then brings an arp that ends up in an uplifting melodic break.  To tie things up a hard hitting reese blows the drop away for a very intense experience.

We welcome Drunken Kong for their last and arguably strongest EP of this year. The Japanese duo delivered 4 peak time tracks that showcase their studio skills in both melodic and percussive techno. 'Vibration' is a peak time percussive track that goes full steam ahead! 'Reset' has strong melodic hooks using their analog synths, coupled together with their trademark energetic groove. 'Straight Ahead' and 'Message' complete this single with two melodic and groovy tracks that are unmistakenly Drunken Kong.

DRUNKEN KONG is the project of D. Singh and DJ Kyoko. In 2010, the two started their project when one day, they
suddenly decided to make a track together. Since then they have released two albums on Christian Smith's label Tronic, The Signs Within (2017) and Where We Start (2020) as well as numerous EPs and singles on labels such as Octopus Recordings, Stil Vor Talent and
Terminal M while they remain active with domestic labels such as Session WOMB. All 7 tracks of their EPs in early 2017 on Tronic and Terminal M have entered Beatport Top 100 Techno chart at the same time, which has made an impact on the Asian and global techno scene. 

Since then, their music has been constantly entering top charts. Their music is gaining a lot of attention/support from
international top artists and DJs such as Carl Cox, Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, Monika Kruse, Pan-Pot, Umek, Hernan Cattaneo and Deadmau5, just to name a few. Their release “Repeat” from Octopus Recordings have entered Beatport Techno Top 10, being supported and played by many artists around the globe.

DRUNKEN KONG has always been active in the Tokyo techno scene, playing regularly at major festivals such as Ultra Japan and in clubs such as WOMB, Ageha, Unit, Vent, Contact and Vision Tokyo. The two are constantly attracting new fans with their unique sound and groove. With their powerful DJ style and charisma, the two are able to constantly amuse the audience while expanding their ideas and skills to the next level.

I’m an old school raver from the 90’s, I remember when clubs were clubs.
Astoria, Camden Palace, Velvet Underground, Check Point Charlie to name a few and obviously Ibiza 89,90 was legendary.
My music taste has been part of my whole life, I still listen to old tracks and mix in with new.
