(In case you're wondering what happened with YESTERDAY's Interbay track--because, as you might know, I've been posting a never before heard track EVERY SINGLE DAY for over a year now--it was posted and is available for you to listen to.  It is called "Swamp" and while I think it is a soundscape of mood, dread, intrigue and storytelling...the SoundCloud bots don't think it is a song, and because of that, they're not going to share it with anyone.  So, only two of you have listened to it.  A shame, but today is a new day and thus there is a new song.  BUT, if you have the time and want to see if you agree with me or the SoundCloud bots...I'd encourage you to take a listen to "Swamp" from my page or my library.  Thanks!)  

I like variety.  I like doing different things, flexing different muscles, expressing myself in different ways.  Today's Interbay SoundCloud exclusive track is a good example of that.  

So, typically, Interbay tracks are either electronic dance songs (in various genres) or post-punk (in various subgenres) or a combination of both.  I like uptempo things that challenge my ears and I like things that would have made the younger me move (and make me feel the crushing weight of the finite nature of time bearing down on the current me.)  

...but that's not ALL I can do.  "Anybody Else" started off as a piano ballad--until I chopped up the piano.  I found a certain sweetness in an ancient drum machine sound and I used it, despite having far better and more modern options--both electronic and traditional sounds.  Similarly, the bassline--while prominent--could hardly be any simpler than it is...as is the chimey acoustic guitar chords.  Add in a jazz saxophone run through some filters and an 80s style synth pad deep into the background...throw some shimmery crystal sounds as a cherry on top...and the pie that comes out of the oven is "Anybody Else" by Interbay--the track that you're reading about right now.  

The showcase of five Interbay songs on this profile shows the five most listened to songs I've posted here on SoundCloud--and they're all way poppier than most of the stuff I make, and many of them are slower than most of the stuff I make.  So, it is obvious that there are people wanting to hear this sort of thing--but, perhaps, those of you who are regular followers of Interbay (and, like Lucas Lee once said, "Why wouldn't you be?"--so go ahead and give this page a follow!) aren't as enamored of the times that I slow the pace down and serve up something more easily digestible.  I get it.  I can only promise you that I will soon be back to the hammer to the head pounding kicks and the abrasive synths or guitar power chords or whatever you associate with Interbay.  

...but, clearly, this sort of emotional and arguably pretty track is certainly part of the Interbay milleu as well.  The crossroads between electronics and natural instruments is a well-trodden path for Interbay...and I think this exercise in simplicity (indeed--it might be the simplest Interbay track ever...even if it doesn't seem so on your first listen) is certainly on that same path.  

I don't know.  I like it.  I find it moody and evocative and I managed not to Pollock every single millimeter of white space here--giving it room to breathe, for a change.  But what matters more is what YOU think of it--which you can only determine by giving it a listen.
