XIII: Stories Never Told

DSmith, born Darrin Kartez Smith Jr. was born and raised in Joliet, IL. Growing up listening to many kinds of music genres spanding from Hip-Hop to JPop. He took more of an interest in music rather than being in the streets. Going through life he had a couple slip ups. Circa 2006 when he was in the 6th grade, his step-dad and uncle built a studio in the basement. There was his opportunity to be apart of what they were doing and to finally showcase his talents. But before being able to record in the studio he was always told that he had to stop getting into trouble. Before he knew it, he was given the chance to be apart of the newly formed Get Fresh Committee.

As a member of the Get Fresh Committee, DSmith, met and traveled to many different places and studios to meet with people who would later help shape his career. Although he never released a complete full-body of work, the music that he did publish or share caught the ears and the attention of many. Although never performing to a large crowd, his few performances taught valuable lessons.

After years of writing and receiving opportunities and lessons from some of his idols to his peers, DSmith was given chances that most people don't get without having a full-body of work or even a catalogue of music. Before announcing his first official project early on, after meeting different management teams and A&Rs, he was getting looked at based off his music on the "Get Fresh Committee" albums dropping. Not satisfied with what was offered for him then, he took to putting together his first "mixtape album" to show and prove that he was worth more than what was offered on the tables.

Released his debut mixtape "XIII: Stories Never Told" April 2016 with some mixing and mastering done by Melza Jordan (of The 17th Floor) and Jonnie Napalm. Sticking with what he knows and combining elements of his musical background and stories of his past, present and dreams of the future, he blends together raw hip-hop talent with an art of story telling well beyond his years. Whereas most people in his age group focus on a style of hip-hop being done repetitively, he's hoping to bring something new to the table.

In 2017 DSmith worked with the international Pop Star, Bentley Jones on his album "Unravelling". DSmith was featured on the song "B.Wut.U.Want.M.2.B". In 2018 DSmith plans on releasing the sequel to his debut mixtape "XIII: Stories Never Told" titled "XIII: Far From Here". Since January 6, 2018 DSmith has been releasing singles from the project onto his Soundcloud. On September 16, 2018 DSmith released his sophomore mixtape titled "XIII: Far From Here" with the cover art done by Abel Gray whose done work for iconic Chicago Hip-Hop Trio "Hurt Everybody" as well as Chance The Rapper amongst others. The recording, mixing and mastering was all done by Chris Radostits at Cinnamon Sound Studio.
