Eagles & Butterflies has led a a charmed life since the outset really, with his productions picked up by John Digweed's Bedrock and more recently, a residency at Space Ibiza's Friday night shindig, Clandestin, to his name. His latest cut marked his return to the Spread Your Wings imprint  and made our single of the week as we championed the heady, jam-packed series of tracks made for the floor.

My essential mix was created with a sunrise set on the robot heart bus in mind out at Burning man, 2015. I played the actual set at BM pretty much the same time this mix was broadcast on Radio one. Despite being a relatively short mix, the track selection required a lot of thinking, just like the previous piece I delivered to XLR8R. This one is yet again inspired by the roller coaster of emotions I went through last year, as well as my worldwide travels, and the sadness I feel whilst facing the countless political issues and terrorist attacks that take place all around the globe.

After 6 years of creating sunrise soundtracks from atop the Robot Heart bus, it is a challenge to avoid submitting to a formulaic approach. One of the biggest perks of producing a Robot Heart sunrise is that you can take risks; explore soundscapes and dynamics, knowing that the mystical Deep Playa setting allows for pauses and quiet moments that don’t translate in loud clubs or multi-stage festivals. This year, the set was a journey starting with robots and ending with humans. I wanted the sun to come up to the sound of arguing AI robots. What you heard was a transcript from the actual negotiation between two AI bots at Facebook earlier that summer;

Other than it creating a surreal environment as the sun came up, it also proved a perfect palette cleanser to transition from night into day. The sounds of flutist Claire Chase immediately afterwards set the tone for the 90 minutes to follow. I remembered Robert Miles (we lost him this year) with a beautiful guitar version of his song "Children", and then introduced spiritual emcee and rising star Elliott LaRue. He delivered a chilling live message from the top of the bus about our challenges and responsibilities as humans. And that about summed up the Scumfrog sunrise from 2017. Enjoy the memories!

This was my third Burn and by far the best one I've experienced. My set at Robot Heart kicked off the proceedings on Sunday morning after the man burn and set the tone for Adana Twins, Swamy and RÜFÜS DU SOL who took it up a few notches until sunrise and beyond. You can hear some special re-edits and unreleased tracks in my set that I made especially for the playa, one of the best testing grounds for any producer! It’s always a pleasure to play for the Robot Heart team whom I’ve known for many years and to be invited to perform the past 2 years has been a real honour and I hope many more are to come!

received his biggest accolade yet: Pete Tong’s Essential Tune of The Year on BBC Radio One, for the string-fueled, epic end-of-nighter ‘Halcyon’, which was 
released on Solomun’s acclaimed Diynamic imprint. 
Dee has also performed several times at Burning Man for Robot Heart, and Carl Cox’s Playground stage, along with massive gigs at Hï with Joris Voorn and Nic Fanciulli in Ibiza.
