I met this weeks guest not very long ago in Tampa Florida at a very special rave for me. This was 30 years of V Recordings hosted by ANO dnb. For as long as I have loved V Recordings, I had never seen JJ Frost or Bryan Gee live. In all my years, it just never worked out. This was a bucket list event for me so to speak. Had to go no matter what. When I told our guest that I'd "see him there!", I Had no idea he was a friendly giant with dreadlocks. I had been playing his tunes on the show for a while already so I was stoked to meet him in person. Turns out he's the shit. Please welcome PopeJohn Repping St Pete and Florida dnb at large. How do you even begin to describe the anomaly that is ContrAversY? Hes taken the east coast by storm over the last 2 decades, and has no intention of letting up. From promoting for Ultraworld and Club Sonar in DC in the 90's, to President of the independant record label Faction Digital Recordings, Contraversy has put in the Legg work of everything inbetween tenfold.
After first being introduced to dance music the mid 90s, it wasnt until 2005 that he found his home behind the decks. Taking from his early influences of hip-hop and metal, his style of mixing and blending track after track seamlessly definitely has not gone by with out notice. Quickly gaining the recognition, and most importantly, the respect of his peers, hes gone on to play countless of shows all up and down the east coast.
