EKPHRÖN

Amoureux des musiques indie des années 60 à aujourd’hui, High Tone a toujours su digérer un panorama musicale varié autant que les éléments technologiques clés de chacune de ces décennies : guitare wah des 70’s, synthès des 80’s, turntablism et sampler des 90’s et logiciels électro des années 2000. Parce que dépasser le cadre du style pour ne parler que de musique a toujours été leur seul credo.

Le groupe a souvent alterné la typologie de ses disques entre expérimentation et maturation. Les 1ers opus étaient spontanés, sans recherche de maîtrise particulière, magmatiques, quand Wave Digger ou Out Back étaient des albums de changements. Le présent album, s’inscrit dans la continuité du No border, le deuxième CD d’Out Back.

Le thème premier d’Ekphrön est le voyage. Au départ pensé comme celui, géographique, dont est empreint leur musique, le voyage est passé du macrocosme au microcosme, pour se focaliser sur l’expérience intérieure dont l’opus porte le nom. Que se passe-t-il lorsqu’on ferme les yeux ? Littéralement du grec hors d’esprit, le titre renvoie à la transe que peut procurer la musique, ce moment de perte des sens communs, le point de rupture, le décrochage de la réalité, l’oubli de soi.

Bien sûr le voyage « physique » est toujours présent en filigrane. Musiques anciennes, archaïques, traditionnelles, spirituelles, fusionnées avec l’urbain, le béton, l’électronique comme une tentative d’harmonisation du monde.

Les invités eux-mêmes – exclusivement des amis - sont à l’image de ce cosmopolitisme. Vincent Segal, moitié de Bumcello, violoncelliste de renommée internationale (il joue régulièrement avec Blackalicious, entre autre) est le premier featuring instrumental du groupe ! On retrouve également le rappeur américain Oddateee avec lequel High Tone avait déjà collaboré sur Out Back et Fool, ainsi que Shanti D sur le single. Un titre déroutant pour qui n’aurait pas assimilé les quelques lignes écrites plus haut.

Mais il en va ainsi avec ce groupe : tour à tour surprenant ou confortant, il ne délivrera jamais aucun message noir sur blanc.

Originally planned as a 4-track EP, this 4-day studio collaboration between the precursors of French Dub and the famous Lyon dub makers seems to have been a singularly prolific one both in terms of quality and quantity. 

The nine initial tracks deliver the brilliant hybridism between the two formations where Improvisators Dub's steppas rhythms (thank you Knarfenstein and Nicolodub) bond with the ethnic scratch ambiances, the synths and drums breaks that are so dear to High Tone. 

Inside one same track, the guitar skanks by Manutension and Julio bring complementary ambiances and rhythms that brilliantly enrich the whole. The sitar of Fransax and the melodicas bring an acoustic touch that counterbalance the electro incursions providing colder and more crystalline ambiances.

Après le lancemment en 2009 du 1er satellite "wake the town & tell the people" voici que ce profile à l'horizon 2012/13 une nouvelle mission pour les DUB INVADERS:
"pour nous, fabriquer nos vinyles est une forme d'engagement, nous retrouvons l'esprit alternatif, on enregistre nous même, on mixe, on grave, on fabrique les pochettes , on gère la com et la distrib, on se fait plaisir en dehors du formatage médiatique ambiant. On retrouve la même énergie à jouer en sound system que lors des fêtes transgressives des 90's."
En effet, les HIGH TONEs - indissociables de la "Bass Culture" - ont décidé de mettre en orbite le projet •DUB•INVADERS•2• avec une nouvelle galette ( double LP) et une tournée en sound system.
Le disque, catalyseur des side-projets d'High Tone à paraitre en décembre 2012 réunira des titres de : Fabasstone, AKu-Fen, Natural High, Twelve, Roots'n future hi-fi, et Led Piperz.
La tournée en live machine & DJset, s'étale de novembre 2012 à Juillet 2013 en configuration sound system, "au sol" dans les salles et festivals, accompagné d'OBF ou Dub Addict et leurs puissants réacteurs soniques.

High Tone crew soundsystem tour
Following the 2009 release of their debut LP, ‘Wake The Town & Tell The People‘, the Dub Invaders now have a new mission as they sail towards 2013.

« Making our records ourselves is a way of getting more involved; a way to rediscover a more alternative approach to the industry. We record, mix and produce our own music and even make the LP artwork. We handle our own PR and distribution and find it rewarding to distance ourselves from current media formating. Playing at a sound-system festival is a reminder of the transgressive atmosphere that pervaded free parties in the 90s.«

Indeed, High Tone, now an integral part of « Bass Culture », has decided to launch the Dub Invaders #2 project with a new double LP and a sound-system tour. The record, a hybrid of High Tone’s side-projects, will be released in December 2012 and will feature music by Fabasstone, Aku-Fen, Natural High, Twelve, Roots’n future hi-fi, as well as Led Piperz.
This collective’s tour will vary (with number of performers at each venue) in Live Machine & DJ set, and will run from november 2012 through July 2013 in a sound-system dedicated configuration, « on the floor » in concert venues and festivals, and accompanied by OBF or Dub Addict, along with their powerful sonic woofers!
