Fidelity Kastrow has held DJ-residencies in Berlin and London since 2007 (Sisyphos, Egg London, Tresor, Torture Garden) and released her own dark techno 12inch vinyl EPs on Mute's seminal techno sub-label NovaMute (Daughter Of Darkness, The Huntress, Wolf Clan) and Sisyphos' label Sisyphon (Full Moon Falcon, Heyoka). As a DJ, she has performed in 20+ countries (including Sweden, Lebanon, Morocco, Greece, France, Denmark) and festivals such as Фузион (Germany), Milkshake (Netherlands), Melt (Germany) and Exit (Serbia).

With a background of 7+ years in classical music education (piano, voice, musical composition) and attending East Berlin’s prestigious ’Spezialschule für Musikerziehung’ (Georg-Friedrich-Händel), she first started out as a songwriter, lyricist and vocalist in 2003, writing and co-writing tracks and delivering vocals for Inspiral Carpets' Martyn Walsh's solo project Spartak, released via Factory Records fanzine Scream City.

3 QUESTIONS to DANIEL NITSCH:

Q: Your mix is full of great storys. Tell us about how these tracks had an influence on your career?

A: I must confess that I was a HipHop kid in the early 1990s. WuTang, PublicEnemy, BeastieBoys (alltime heroes!), basketball, graffiti and gentle attempts to breakdance - that was my life. I can remember very well how I listened the anthem of "Planet Rock“ for the first time on a tape. Oh my - that has blown me away and it was on repeat for the following weeks. In these days I didn’t play records but I listened to different styles of music. I believe that the sound of this time influenced me a lot. In the middle of the 1990s I started DJing and producing. Just in the beginning there was Classic House and Electro where I still can find a soft spot today. It’s great that artists like Steve Rachmad, DJ Hell, The Hacker but also Daft Punk, Steve Bug and many many other are still inside our scene nowadays. There are so many classic songs which you can find from time to time inside my case.

Q: You are 50% of the famous duo THE GLITZ. But what´s musicially the difference between that and your solo project?

A: I´m quite sure that people who know "The Glitz" and who know my solo project "Daniel Nitsch" will hear that very fast. For me "The Glitz" is an exciting and fantastic common project by Andreas Henneberg and me. We both came from different musical fields and have completely different influences in music. Somehow we found a way and we got the luck that we develop an own sound where we can suprise us every time in the studio or on stage. For many people "The Glitz" stands for a kind of peak-time sound which gives you a positive vibe. It’s not important which sound we make together but it’s important that we can smile and have fun. And about my solo project: I would say that mostly I´m a collector and selector and as music junkey always in search of new music which delights me without building musicial borders. You can find sudden changes in my sets - Acid House coming after HipHop or a Delsin-Record follows an old Funk-Song, having finally an 1980s Ambient-Song in the end - all is possible. But for sure I pay attention on the crowd and try to have a good harmonic night with them. Also for my productions I worked a little bit different and float sometimes for days in any soundscapes or I make musical journeys for myself.

Q: Which Daniel Nitsch activities/projects can we expect soon?

A: At the moment I work a lot of for my new own label FeelRawAudio. As artists I´ve joined the crew „Feines Tier“ from Cologne two months ago - really exciting artists and DJs. Also there will happen some more in the next time. I think until the end of the year you can expect a new solo vinyl and remixes from me. But let´s take it easy as I´m quite relaxed about it.

Sprinkling in the occasional trippy melodic or Acid line, this one is sure to keep you on your feet!

Unsere Nr. 205 kommt heute von einem Künstler, der mich seit ungefähr 10-12 Jahren mehr oder weniger ununterbrochen musikalisch begleitet. Seine Mixe sind immer ein besonderes Highlight bei uns zu Hause. Dezent, federleicht und mit einem Schuss experimentierfreudigkeit kommen seine geschichtsartigen Mixe daher. Ein wahrhaftiger Genuss. 
Die Rede ist von dem Berliner „Grizzly“, einem komplett unkomplizierten und zuverlässigen Künstler. Früher war er neben dem Auflegen auch selbst Organisator der legendären GRIZZLYNATION. Ach war das schön damals…
Auch wenn es um Ihn in den letzten Jahren etwas ruhiger wurde, blieb er der Szene aber treu. Zusammen mit Lieza (https://soundcloud.com/Liesapan) gründeten beide das spannende Dou „GrizzLiesa“ (https://soundcloud.com/GrizzLiesa). Zusammen bespielten sie national nennenswerte Festivals wie zum Beispiel die „Nation Of Godwana“ und in Clubs wie dem Mensch Meier (https://soundcloud.com/menschmeierbackup).

Ursprünglich war ein gemeinsames Set mit Liesa geplant welches aber gesundheitsbedingt ausfallen musste. Aber Grizzly kann ja auch alleine  Und wie!!! Das von Ihm eingespielte Set ist eine herrlich ‚afterhoureske‘ Reise ins Dickicht der dezent melodischen und zugleich verschickten elektronischen Musik. Das sich Grizzly für dieses Set etwas ganz besonderes einfallen lassen hat ist unüberhörbar. Dazu seine Worte:

„Wie das auf Afterhours ja oftmals so ist - anfangs liegt man gemütlich, vertrippt und sicher auch ordentlich verspult rum - und plötzlich erwachen die alten Lebensgeister zu neuem Leben und wollen nochmal so richtig einen drauf machen, die Reste wegballern und alles wegdancen was wegzudancen geht. So auch dieser Mix :)“
Ich war beim ersten Hören des Sets tatsächlich komplett geflasht, hatte ich doch etwas leicht anderes erwartet. Aber diese Überraschungsmomente, die unsere Reihe und die jeweiligen musikalischen Interpretationen immer wieder mit sich bringen, hauen mich, nein uns, immer wieder um. Darauf darf man auch ein wenig Stolz sein. Vor allem dann, wenn die Künstler mit soviel Liebe zum Detail an die Sache rangehen und etwas vollkommen einzigartiges erschaffen. Nämlich ihrem bzw. seinem Afterhour Sound. Dass das heute leider keine Selbstverständlichkeit mehr ist, muss an dieser Stelle nicht gesagt werden.
Umso mehr freut es mich / uns, dass wir Grizzly mit einem Set gewinnen konnten. 

Schnallt euch an… Ich kann mich nur wiederholen, aber es erwartet euch eine Reise durch verspielte und hypnothische Felder, die wie gemacht für eine Afterhour sind. Seid gespannt.

Wir danken Dir vielmals für dieses besondere Set Grizzly. Umwerfend und überraschend gut. Wenn Unikat, dann Hier. Chapeu.

Grizzly presents "Lebensgeister" Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 205

In a time when significant parts of dance music have become unexcitingly homogenous, two DJ buddies decided to pierce through and deliver their vision of great music. With dub being one of the founding fathers of electrically engineered music searching for that minimal yet stimulating groove and disco serving as the timeless elevating sound that took the dancefloors by storm, Dub Disco was born. Always keeping these influences in mind yet never making them their sole interest, Aussteiger and Serj Nosé have forged their very own style as DJs throughout the years and are delivering their take on what should be heard and played! 
Their uncompromised approach to the love and craft of music has led them to turn Dub Disco into the kind of label that does things right. Riding the same spirit, underground digger & producer George Wedel joined the Dub Disco Team some years later.
