MikkiM and the legendary Dreadzone singer Spee, team up to do this new dancehall anthem - "We Come Again". Bass in the original version was played by Brazilian wizard Victor Rice. Dub mix was created by North American finest reggae/dub producer Dubmatix. The record is coming out with four more remixes, three of them are from the top Czech electronic music producers- Chong X,Grove and Voita Lipert. Cumbia,tech house and breakbeat versions make this release interesting and suitable to play on many kinds of parties. One more dub remix is coming from the big French talent, producer MoL. Record is released digitally on Big Bong Records (BGBG004).

It was the album King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown that altered my world. The deep bass lines and the syncopated drum groove with the “flying cymbal” aka “flyers” style created by drummer Santa Davis captivated and hooked me for life. Behind the music, I was hearing was King Tubby, one of the pioneers of dub who helped propel it into the musical consciousness of people worldwide so today I pay tribute to the dub master and Santa Davis’ “flying cymbal” style.

The bridge between rocksteady and roots began in the late 60s into the new decade of the 70s and with it, the sounds, tempo, and styles evolved into the next phase which would become roots reggae. Still, in between, there was a short period of time where the music and lyrics straddled the past and the future. Lee' Scratch" Perry was at the forefront of this change and played an essential role in developing new sounds, ways to utilize sound fx, and production styles.

Every once and awhile you come across a classic song that sticks to the inner walls of the brain like sweet candy. Such is the case for Rueben “Andy” Anderson and Joanna “Joey” Dennis’s, “I’m Wondering Now,” released on the C and N - J.A Records in 1964 as the duo, Andy & Joey with backing from one time band members of the original Skatalites – Lloyd Knibbs, drums and Nerylynn Taitt, guitar.

The song caught our attention two years back when searching for great material for the Rhythm Express and pairing songs with our front line singers; Selena Evangeline, Gavin Hope and Stacey Kay. There’s a terrific, yet brief version from the V festival in 2009 with the Specials, who recorded the song on their debut, The Specials produced by Elvis Costello in 1979. It is said, the album was a” defining moment in the UK ska scene,” and guest, Amy Winehouse, who herself recorded and released as a single in 2007.

The “Queen of Ska” Doreen Shaffer teamed with the Skatalites in 1994 and recorded on the Grammy nominated side, Hi-Bop Ska. Shaffer fought the hard battle in a male dominated genre opening the way for singers Phyllis Dillon, Dawn Penn and Hortense Ellis.

The Rhythm Express is ever evolving. In keeping with 2015 and the band’s scheduled “one single” a month concept – “You’re Wondering Now” feels like the perfect May warm up to summer - the kind of song and performance that makes rolling down the windows and welcoming a warm transitional breeze, most desirable. It’s the ceaseless groove and three part harmonies, which lingers long after the song fades.

Selena Evangeline sings this, – the harmonies and lead vocal backed by the rhythm section – Everton “Pablo” Paul drums, Jesse “Dubmatix” King bass - Shane “Shaky J” Forrest guitar, and Bill King – arranger/keyboards, Christopher Butcher of the Heavyweights Brass Band – trombone – newcomer to the Express – Rebecca Hennessy, trumpet and Bobby Hsu, alto saxophone.

We’d also like to welcome singer Michael Dunston to the collective. In the coming weeks and months Michael will be featured on several classic sides with the band.

In October 2014, Lincoln Valentine Style Scott was murdered in his house in Manchester, Jamaica. He was 58 years old. At that tim he had just finished his work on “Hard Food”, the first album released by his Dub Syndicate since “No Bed of Roses” in 2004. Dub Syndicate’s first studio album for eleven years, an event that was to be a joyous celebration with friends, has now become Style Scott’s legacy.

NOW, exactly one year after his death – the new dub scene of Europe will tribute to this legendary drummer. The trademarking song “DUB IS ALL I GOT” will appear in 14 different version and excursion as a kind of REMIX Clash. A fascinating and splending bass experience and in the very sensitive way the remixers and admirers paid tribute for is more than excellent…!

With Style Scott the reggae world, and indeed the entire world, has lost one of its best drummers. His unexpected, tragic death is devastating for his friends and family, to whom we express our deepest sympathy. At the same time, Style’s music – both sounds and lyrics – reveal that his life was rich in warmth and harmony. His death has made our lives poorer.

For his new album he spent 2 years in the past and a lot of time in tweaking the knobs on high class Roots Tunes inna crossover style…!
