With the release of his unique and accomplished debut EP, ‘What I Do’, Mydas laid out his stall as producer, firmly setting himself apart from the pack. Now Mydas is being welcomed back to the label with his long-awaited follow-up being prepped for release in September. Continuing to forge his open path, the three-track ‘I Am Mydas’ EP clearly marks the evolution in his sound crafted from his time away in the studio and successfully lays down the gauntlet for other producers. Having had the chance to get acquainted, now is the time to listen and take note.

On opener ‘Squared’ Mydas gets straight down to business, fine-tuning his sound to a precision-tooled form. Balancing its detailed arrangement against pure brute force, pummelling square wave bass tears through the engineered drum bounce and sparing melodic motifs. Up next, Leeds based producer Loz Contreras joins Mydas once again for ‘Mistakes’, having previously collaborated on free download ‘Where The River Flows’. Here the duo draws upon a more emotive but no less powerful sound, which will be recognizable as a highlight on Subscape’s recent ‘My Style’ mix CD. As lush synths rub up against wandering guitar riffs and echoing vocals, the skipping percussion and warm bass provide a different energy to the dancefloor while bringing depth to home listening. Completing the EP is ‘Beneath The Fold’, an electric blend of musicality and muscle. Here crashing drums and warped low end collide with explosive synths and soaring vocals on an epic climax to the EP.
