Butterfly Emergence

In September 2011 we recorded this in Trey's studio.  Trey plays all the instruments and his guitar track was done in a single take! He created the drum track using Garage Band.  I wrote the lyrics following a vivid dream I had about Trey in late 2008 while the band was still broken up.  In the dream I was searching for him in the jungles of The Amazon. After a long and grueling journey I finally located him on a primitive yet beautiful house-boat. He was accompanied by a small posse of men who I had never seen before. The room mystically glowed and  the flames from a myriad of intricately designed candles cast strange shadows on the walls. Trey was laughing and was in fine spirits. Then I looked down at his hand and I noticed that Trey's right thumb looked a little bit funny.  Upon closer inspection I saw that there was a living snakehead where his thumb should be!  I didn't want to say anything about it because I wasn't sure if the other people in the room had knowledge of it. Or perhaps they knew but weren't aware that I knew about it. My favorite lines of the song are: Some things you never read about in books - What's lurking 'round in the shrouded nooks - If you think you've seen it all before - You won't be thinking that anymore  ;-)

Snake Head Thumb

Trey and I wrote this one in November of '09 in a sushi restaurant in NYC.  The initial recording was done on Trey's iPhone. Eventually we decided to go out onto the street where we recorded guitar, bass and drum tracks with the only instruments we had, our voices. Trey took it back to his studio and the next day sent me this recording! :-)

Show of Life

O.K.  this is the original demo of The Architect that Trey and I recorded at Rubber Jungle, Trey's home studio, on 10/25/11. It was a beautiful but chilly fall day. Trey put some logs on the fire, we drank some coffee and got to work. Trey plays all the instruments on this majestic acoustic  track.

Trey & I wrote "Edie's Dream" as a tribute to the beautiful and charismatic Edie Sedgwick, best known for being one of Andy Warhol’s cinematic superstars in the mid-sixties.  Back in our high school days, Trey and I were intrigued by the Warhol Factory scene, which included musical artists such as Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground.  

In September 2011, Trey and I met up at Rubber Jungle Studios.  He and I collaborated on the lyrics and he played acoustic & electric guitars, bass and drums while I played a single note on the triangle.  

After a few hours of recording, we sat down for a late lunch and split an olive loaf sandwich and drank some of the finest Kona coffee.
